I went out and glassed some property and found some does and bucks traveling to the food plot to eat for the evening. Is it too early to start a pattern on the does? I figured the bucks will be breaking up by bow season.

Does no but bucks yes. It is almost time to scout imo. I love summer scouting for bucks, not really for thier pattern but to watch and learn their habits. There are some deer that I can tell from summer scouting that they are gonna be impossible to kill almost. The best thing to see is a big old buck that is social and aggressive, you can kill that deer. But a big old deer that is by himself all summer and hates other deer around him; your gonna be extremely lucky if you can even get trail camera pics of him once he sheds his velvet.

By old deer I mean 4+, some people think that bucks will completely move once they shed their velvet; and some do, but an old deer 4+ years old will not. I don't care what kind of food source is there an old deer is there for a reason. He will not move more than a 1/4 mile. Even if you hunt the crap out of him he will go nocturnal and even evade cameras but he knows that ground and how to survive there. I promise you he will not completely move but he will make you think he has.

The best thing about early season scouting is alot of big old deer will almost always go back to thier early season pattern in late Dec. and early Jan.

Just remember that the patterns you see now may change once acorns start to fall. But summer patterns often hold into the first week of bow season.

I would disagree with that. I've seen plenty of mature bucks shift ranges at the normal seasonal times.

I have watched a bchelor group of mature deer dispurse once the velvet is shed for the last 3 years straight. As for them older bucks not going more than a 1/4 mile away... I had pictures 2 years ago of a 4.5 y/o all summer long, and he got shot by a farmer 3 miles away 2nd week of archery season.

I have tried hard over the pass 4-5 years to figure out the summer shift transition, only to no success! The seer act like different creatures whe they shed.

Last year, I seen a group of 6 2.5 year old bucks completly drive 3 5.5 year old bucks off the proprerty until late March.

All depends on the area and what type foods 'are' or 'will' be available in the next few months! Things change daily as the food sources change in early Fall!
