Has anyone ever had any luck Rattling Horns? I have ,but not really rattling just hitting the trees and barely hitting the tines together, Not getting real aggressive like you might see on TV. I think it works ,at certain times better than others Like right before the rut.

my dad called up the first buck i ever killed by rattling. he came running in full speed. thats the only time ive ever seen it affective. 2 years ago i was rattling and my brother could hear me from about 150 yards away. he had 3 does in the field and he said they were working my way until they heard me and spooked. since then i havent rattled.

I rattled a couple of times last season and spooked some does that I we're bedding down close by. I've never had any success with it, but am interested to hear what the old timers have to say. I've heard before that it doesn't work so well in the South, but am not sure why this [might] be true. Midwestern deer more aggressive because there is a higher buck to doe ratio? If this is true, then rattling should work well on a managed property.
All areas that I hunt have a low buck to doe ratio. I have never personally witnessed two bucks fight or even pre rut spar. I've only seen this on TV. Like I said, I'm really interested to hear other's observations on this.
I, for one, will be leaving the rattle bag at home this Fall. If I bring it out to the woods, it gets too tempting when I've been hanging there for 7 hours.

I never go into the woods hunting without my horns...I don't always use them but I do always have them eith me....same for a grunt call...
I have used the horns and brought in bucks and does year round...No, not every time, but enough to give me confidence in them when the conditions feel right...deer are pretty curious animals...
Lots of factors come into play as to when and how I try them....they are no majic pill by any means,..but they will work at times....

I've had very little success with rattling in Tennessee, although I have killed a few bucks with this tactic.
In Illinois, however, it's another matter. I would not go in the woods without my rattling antlers up there!
