Just wondering if there is a topo site where the Aerial Photos are recent. Everything I am seeing is atleast 3-4 yrs old. Thanks.

I use aerial maps daily for work, and have not found one to be consistantly up-to-date. I have to switch between Bing, Google, and ESRI to find the most recent for the area I'm researching..

Google maps/google earth seems to be pretty up to date in most cases. they are at least 5 years old for most of the places i have checked. Guess it depends on where you are and whether there are any major changes occuring. There is a pretty large road construction project near where I hunt, so maybe that's why it is more up-to-date. I've got 2010 images. Guess I should consider myself lucky.

If you have a google account you can create a private custom map by using the "My Maps" function and draw in the roads. That's what I use for logging roads that don't show up on the aerial photos anyway. Takes a little work with a gps to get 'em right, but worth the effort. When I'm in the field with my blackberry, I can see the aerial photo, a dot that indicates where I am on the photo, and any features that I've drawn in. Very cool! Mark my words on this, in the near future the smart phone will make consumer-oriented gps units obsolete in areas that have good cell coverage. It already has for me.

mapper.acme.com
Mapper is the best I have found. On one page it has aerial, topo, hybrid, terrain, GPS coord and ability to mark areas. A lot of the photos were updated this past spring. You can search by name, gps coord, zip code. It is an excellent site.
It is free!!
