Does anyone hunt the Wolf River WMA?

Seems I'll be on public land this year and looking for tips / suggestions on options in West TN.

print the map off the twra website and do lots of scouting before the season. Make sure you bring a compass as you can get turned around. Stay in the stand until at least 11 in the mornings as the deer tend to start moving again around 9 and stay till dark in the evening as they tend to start walking the last 30 minutes. STAY ON THE WMA. there is some private land with corn and beans planted around the perimiter and the property owner loves to arrest people. The easier the walk to your stand the easier it is to get walked up on by other hunters.

Which area are you referring to? The parking area off of Main street? I had scouted out there twice before I realized I was out of bounds by mistake. I guess I was expecting to see very obvious and aggressive no trespassing signs that you will usually see on properties bordering public lands. Not sure how I missed the yellow markers on two occasions, but I assume them to be more obvious in the Fall when there's less vegetation.

Just curious -how does the land owner arrest anyone? I'm not defending the actions of the trespassers, but, legally, there's not much action he can take except for call the Police or TWRA.

Well i guess I misspoke as he will call the police on you.
in fact he is known for hiding around the property line in certain areas waiting for someone to walk on his land. has been doing this for years. if you go through the park on beasly from lagrange and after you pass the pole barn in the middle the fields that start on the left up until the right curve. His land boarders other areas as well

If it's the same dude, I've heard from a buddy of mine who hunts up there, that he will ride his property lines on his ATV yelling and screaming and bangin around if he sees anybody hunting close to the line.

Looking at the map, I see the boundary line you are talking about.

I screwed up at the 1st Yager road access point and walking Southeast for a about a mile. Comparing the boundary map with a Topo map, I thought the boundary went a little further back into the hill terrain.

Yes be very careful when around the property border. It's a good WMA (especially after most people are off gun hunting in december) but the guy that owns the private land around it is well known for doing anything and everything to keep people away and from shooting "his" deer. That being said I several spots that I do well on the WMA.

Also coming from Lagrange as soon as you drop off the hill there is a parking spot on the left before you get to the bridge. The dirt road /trail ran into private property. there is wma on the other side but in the past you had to walk around the private land into a nasty swamp to get to it. Starting last year you can now walk through the private land to get to the WMA on the other side. You just have to unload all weapons. As far as the land owenr "Buzzy" one year during a youth hunt he was riding around blowing a trumpet. Always thought there was better things to do with your life but its his land.

I guess he can get away with that since he is on his own land but what about someone calling the law on him for hunter harrassment???

how far does he have to go?

banging pots and pans, hollering, blowing trumpets all sound like a big No-No.

Riding the 4wheeler around his boarder I can understand, may not like it if I was hunting there but it is his right.

Everything else sounds like he is only after the hunter's rights.

what do ya'll think?

The Wolf River WMA manger is well aware of the issue. For some reason lots of folks want to hunt that treeline which is also the property line. The area is 7,000 with plenty of other good spots.
