I have never killed a "trophy" that I didn't eat, and I'm almost
sure that others have either eaten theirs or given the meat to
someone who does.

I think the non-hunting public might need to be educated or imformed about that. I have never in my life heard of any so
called "trophy" hunter that killed a deer, cut the rack off, and
let the meat rot. I am talking about legitimate hunters, not
scumb bag poachers just looking for a big deer rack.

The old saying goes you can't eat the horns. Are trophy hunters looked down on? Well I guess that just depends. I know a fellow who don't like deer meat and when he kills a deer he just gives the meat to his dogs. Do I look down on him? Well then yes I reckon I do. It just depends on what you want to call trophy hunting. Give the meat away to someone who needs it and put the horns on your wall that's fine and dandy. But if your going to tell me you like to shoot deer to watch them fall and then feed the meat to your dogs well that's altogether different.

I don't deer hunt for the meat, I can buy meat from the grocery store! I hunt for good times with family and friends and to kill big mature bucks for my wall.

I believe the average nonhunter feels much better about a mature big bodied big racked male being killed than a doe or especially a fawn, simply because it is a mature male animal that has the ability and the tools to fend for itself.
I disagree. Meat hunters and others on this site do not look down on Trophy Hunters. What causes conflict is when Trophy Hunters want to unilaterally change regulations and bag limits to increase their chances of killing what they consider to be a Trophy. Since, as is made evident by trail cam pictures, there are many trophy deer in TN I consider those wanting to change regulations and bag limits to increase their chances of killing a trophy to be someone that is unwilling to put in the work and time to kill the trophies that are already there.

So which would make a nonhunter more upset seeing lying on the back of a trailer, a 140" 4.5 yr buck or a spike or a doe. And I think most know that you can still eat a big buck. I know people who have made landowners angry by killing immature deer, especially fawns. I never said meat hunters look down on trophy hunters, I just stated this isn't a trophy hunter friendly site and it is proven each time a thread like this surfaces. But that is ok, not wrong with disagreement.

I don't believe an animal that has been harvested should be put on display for the non-hunting public to see, because the non-hunting public controls the hunter’s fate.

One more observation is that some people wear their feelings on the cuff of their sleeve and disagreement with any idea or action is only good when they are the ones doing the disagreeing,

IMO people on this site who are meat hunters look down on folks who hunt for big mature bucks. It happens elsewhere, it just seems to be more prevalent here.

Just the fact that folks consider bucks "small" and "big" says something....I don't know exactly what, but they are all bucks and provide meat for the table in my eyes. Now don't get me wrong, I pass on yearling bucks too with the hopes they will grow some and I firmly believe to each his own, but classifying folks as killing "small" and "big" bucks seems judgmental in itself. jmo fwiw.

And I couldn't care less if someone wants to wait for a 175" buck and won't shoot nothing but, or shoots the first button he/she sees on opening day of archery season either. \:\)

Oh,come on Mup,there is always an exception, but every hunter I know can make a judgement between a big buck, and a "small" buck. What are most stories about?.....The "big one"they got,or the "big one" that got away, usually, with kids being an exception.
