Oh I remember my first deer Gator,I remeber em all,I also remember walking up on a small 8 15 or so years ago,and thinking,I can do better than this If I try .I really dont care what others do,I dont really understand it,but my place is sort of an Island,so,It doesnt really matter.
I can get all the meat I want from does. and that is part of the problem.guys who have good places to hunt don't understand how someone who hunts public land can get excited over a small buck even though the guy on public land probably hunted harder for his small deer. You forgot to mention the guys that hunt in East TN..... also. We only get to kill a few does a yr, not three a day. This is why sometimes even a small buck makes it to the freezer... Is there a road block on 40 now, wasnt one there last time I went to ETN,Guess Ill see today, heading toward the Greenville area this afternoon. Nope,no road blocks up between 11E exit on 81,and all the way to Arlington exit, about 35 I think on 40.

I know a guy that takes 3.5 and 4.5 y.o. bucks off public land about every year,.. everywere in this state is a good place to hunt if your willing to put in the effort to scout and show some patience,.... if thats what you want.

sure there are some nice deer on public land but I stand by what I said.most people hunting public land have to work harder for thier deer.If you hunt big pulbic land you can find a spot to kill mature deer every year. Its the small areas that are really tough to hunt.

Studies show that most public land hunters usually hunt within 500 yards of were they park their vehicle,.. if you want a shot at a bigger deer,.. go another 100 yards past them all!!
Seriously,.. i'm not disagreeing with you totally,.. but if you get away from the pressure areas,.. success is higher. Even on public hunting land thats only 1500 acres.

How did all these studies?I really want to cuss them because i listened to that crap for years and everytime I walked a mile back i either hit another road or found a guy just as amazed to see me as I was him.
i found out if you hunt next to roads no one hunts 50 yards off the road.some of my best stands are where I watch trucks drive down the road or listen to people in camp.Of course these are places I hunt when I'm just hunting deer and not a big buck but they hang out there.

I've almost found it easier to hunt public land than private, usually on public I just hunt the hunters and the deer will be were they aren't

Sounds like you should have used a map of the land before you went walking. That guy back there was only 500 yards off the rd you didn't know was there!! No one hunts 50 yards off the rd due to fear of tn roadhunters shooting the deer before you can,. and your in the tree!! Just messing with ya man,... i'm just stating what i have read and what i know for myself, and what others have told me. There is a guy on here that has posted some pics of his public land bucks too,.. he will tell you the same story,.. because it works for alot of hunters.
i did look at a map.doesn't help much when it doesn't show old logging roads or other roads not listed. thats happened to me a lot. i am more surprised anymore when I don't find a road way back in the woods.even aerial photos will lie about it.lol
