I'm cheating this year... got a ML tag for the unit I've been bowhunting for the past 5 years.
Honestly, I don't think there is any way to prepare for the altitude before-hand. Although I will say that it affects me significantly less each year after the first.
My first trip, I actually started getting a little altitude sickness (muscle cramps, headache, coughing) after spending half the day at 13,000 feet. Since then, I've only been short of breath when moving fast getting into position.
Definetly not like deer hunting, but it's pretty much exactly like turkey hunting (except you've got to fool thier noses instead of their eyes)

If you can do it, go out a couple days early and stay at a higher altitude then you plan to hunt. Take several short hikes each day. I use to spend a couple days at a sleep cheap in Rabbitt Ears Pass-14,000 feet and when I dropped down to 11,000, I was fine. Just be sure to stay well hydrated.

Nothing compares to an elk hunt....public land WYO bull. Going into the Thorofare this year for 10days with an elk and mulie tag.
