I will shoot the first legal deer that gives me a good shot. Buck or doe, dead deer is dead deer.

I shot one on opening day at LBL last season at about 7am. I'll do the same no matter where I am hunting but I won't do it after the first couple of weeks because the bucks will start following.

Shot does and had bucks walk right in trailing them.do you really think a buck will stop trailing a hot doe because he hears a loud noise?bucks trailing a hot doe are dumb and will keep up the trail

RAFI, That is very interesting. Especially if some of the buck were mature. I have seen many 1.5 and even 2.5 bucks act like they were in another world trying to pass their genes with not a care in the world. I have yet to see a truely mature buck with that type behavior.
Not to say it couldn't or hasn't happened though. All my observations have been where deer are under considerable hunting pressure.

you can never tell for sure.one that I remember is a nice buck that walked up after I shot a doe.he didn't care about the shot but as soon as he hit the trail where she was hit he stopped trailing, not sure if he got confused and backtrailed or if he smelled the trail and was worried.

maybe, but that is a chance i would not be willing to take while hunting a 4.5 yr old or older buck. i am sure it wouldnt bother a 2.5 yr old but not so sure on a battle hardening weary pressured monarch. not enough reward for the risk in my book, but to each his own.

I wouldn't hesitate to shoot a doe no matter what season it is.

As Always- The best time to shoot a doe is when one or more are in the sights.
Can't tell you how many times I've seen bucks, although small bucks come sneeking around after dropping one or two and checking them out,a couple of those hung around a bit too long as well. Today though they would likely be safe to check things out all they want to.
The last year I hunted in GA I shot a doe that was being chased by a what I think was a decent buck.He hung around but due to my uncle not following our agreed to radio deal I couldn't get a good look to see if I wanted to take it to,although I could have.

I've taken several 2.5-3.5 year old bucks over dead does that were in heat. I've never killed a 4.5+ year old buck that way but I still don't doubt it could happen. I won't hesitate to drop a hot doe for bait.
