I generally like to keep my hunting trips to within an hour. I lease and my lease is 33 miles from home so i allow up to an hour and a half and this works well. Since i hunt then go to work many days i can only handle this set up for the most part during Rut. I dont try to kill myself during the bow season for financial reasons as well as health. I love to hunt and like you have been a loner much of my life. If i tell someone to meet me at a certain time and they drag 30 minutes late i wont hunt with them again. I have no tolerance for those who cant get up when season gets here. I go on adrenaline and never use an alarm nor do i need one. I am not as meticulous as you and then i perhaps am not as successful either. i do have my points of "got toos".....I hunt during the rut almost non stop except where work interfers. I will walk 1 mile to some locations if necessary and try to go where others arent willing and are too lazy to. I look for hidden areas and or difficult to approach ones. I care not how far i might have to drag one, only that i am on one that is worth the effort. I have many times took 2.5 hours to get one out in places like eagle creek wma....doesnt matter. I want to be on a great deer if at all possible and distance doesnt matter nor terrain. You are probably in a narrow per centile of truly "dedicated" hunters. Many claim it but then they drive their 4 wheelers right up to the stand they hunt....I have never understood this at all.
Still to each his own and i respect an individuals limits and rights to be happy with what they choose to do. Great Post!

I have a small piece of land in central Williamson County that I drive just over an hour to get to.

I drive 4 hours either to Stewart or Hickan Co. (it's about the same to each) I go when ever I can afford the gas unless the weather is calling for a wash out. I generally save vacation time, and take 1 full week off in Nov. and use the rest to take as many fridays or mondays off to make three day weekends. It's rough, but if you lay off the booze and get in bed early enough it is usually well worth it.

I'd be willing to drive an hour, but not much more. I'm not out to drive, I'm out to go hunting!
