Has anyone used the concentrated permethrin that you can buy at Tractor Supply for treating hunting clothing? I picked up an 8 oz bottle with 10% active ingredients for about $6. Compare that to 6 oz of permanone with 0.5% active ingredients for about the same money.

I figure if I cut it with 20 parts water to one part concentrate, I'll get 168 oz of 0.5% solution for the cost of a 6 oz can.

Anyone have any thoughts and/or experience with safety and effectiveness? The bottle lists concentrations for direct application on various types of livestock, but nothing for clothing treatment.

Thanks Stik. I knew I had seen something on TnDeer but couldn't find it when I searched.

1 Oz of the 10% permethrin to 20 oz of water will give you the same 0.5% concentration as canned permanone. Just a word of caution, the label ssys that it is for animal use only and not for household use. I don't know if that is just because the concentration is stronger and the manufacturer is concerned about it being used full strength, or because they don't want to include instructions for using on clothing, or because the formulation is different.

I poked around on the internet and saw a comment somewhere that said the inert ingredients may be different because the two products are designed to "stick" to different things - animals vs. clothing. Don't have any idea whether there is any truth to that, but try it at your own risk.

One thing is certain - it should be sprayed on clothing and allowed to dry before wearing the clothing. Do not apply it directly to your skin.

Thats what I got at the beginning of the summer. It seems to work quite well. I just spray it on my clothes, let dry, and I'm good to go. It's supposed to be good for up to 3 days, but I spray everytime I go out anyways. Though, you need to spray something else on for chiggers! They ate me alive on my ankles. I hate them things!
