I've killed more "hidden" deer with an intentional spine shot than any other shot I could have taken. A spine shot on the foward half of the body is a killing shot. I agree. But I'd never intentionally shoot a deer in its "back half" in a attempt to "break it down". Almost like thinking if you shoot it in the foot, it will run slower, then you "might" be able to get a better shot.

who would choose not to take that route?
I would never take a shot at a deer "to break it down for the second shot." Never. I am actually notorius for being too cautious with my shot selection. But, I have no regrets.

I have been on boths sides of the fence, waited for a better shot and lost the opportunity, and shot too fast and wished I would have waited and not rushed the shot.
Ditto & I guess I'll be there again but I will admit I have gained patience as I have become older !
