to bad that massive 6 and any other buck with less than 8 points is off limits and every single buck is off limits until u kill and check in a MATURE doe. and JEFF i think it says if u havent gotten anything in the mail by sep 5th or 9th to consider yourself unlucky in this years drawing.

Crossed fingers in the drawing! Rattlesnake Rridge is also in Unicoi. Surrounded by N. Cherokee WMA. Low numbers, but lots of deer never seen by human up there. I saw one of the most unusual racks ever up there. On a 8 pt skull, i saw an 8 pt with a cork screw antlers. I mean all the tines corkscrewed, it was crazy looking.

Good pictures! I plan on getting drawn this year so count me in on any single one of those deer! I would gladly take.

Just kind of stinks you only have 1 day to take a mature doe... drag her back... get your buck tag... go back out... and PRAY!

oh well, for $30 it's well worth the oppurtunity most people will never have to even see a deer of that caliper

oh if u get lucky on a doe the drag shouldnt be to hard because the stands are 50 yards from the roads at the most

You can stay in all day if you like, just be at the road where youre dropped off at the given time to be out.

There are MANY stands well beyond 50 yards from the road too... \:\) But, you can always have the volunteers assist with dragging.

Curious....

If I choose (which I do) to hunt all day... let's say I drop a doe at like 2pm.... is there anyway to just let her lay there while I hunt the rest of the day?

EX:

I shoot a doe at 2pm... let her lay
Big buck comes @ 3pm... shoot him

Or do I physically have to have a buck tag IN HAND before I can shoot one?

Not saying anything anything ethicly wrong.... just trying to MAXIMIZE hunting time in 1 seemingly short day.

Also... who determines if it's a mature doe... what's the criteria for that? Mature to some could mean 5+yrs old, mature to others could mean a 2yr old.

You have to have a buck tag in hand.... if you drop a big mature doe in her tracks, and she is being followed by a big 150 incher... you cannot "by rules" shoot him. You have to go through the process and check the doe out...BUT if you drop your doe at 2pm, check her, go back to a stand and DONT shoot a buck... you will get a designated date to come back on the installation for a buck only hunt in November of 2011 so all isnt lost if you dont tag a buck same day you shoot your doe!

what they consider a mature doe is anything except a yearling or 1/2 year old deer. they will tell u the rules the morning of the hunt. they usually have u get there at 4am

Wow, ok sounds good to me. I new about the not getting a buck but getting a doe thing. And that's good. Just would really suck if a big buck was chasing the doe I was forced to shoot!

Thats no doubt! I have heard it alot! Hunter is at the road, show up to take them back in to check the doe in and the stories begin! Heard twice in one day, two hunters tell me the doe they shot dropped and the buck tried to get the doe up! That would be sad! \:\)

Also in state regs, a spike under 3" is a legal doe... the deer you harvest inside HAAP has to be a mature female deer to obtain a buck tag.

There are usually several on this site that gets drawn each year. As for needing to have four on each side.... just as long as the deer has a total of 8 points, one inch or longer, doesnt matter if he is a 6x2 etc etc \:\) Sure hope plenty of hunters that have not had the chance to hunt inside gets the congrats letter in the mail this year.

I'd have to look online.... thought it was 9 or better???

Either way... I'll keep fingers crossed that me and my 2 buddies get drawn as a group. That's how we applied.

Long 6.5 hr drive for us though. If we get there we're gonna stay at my parents mountain log cabin in Waynesville, NC

I saw him this morning while i was driving to my parking spot at work he is looking kind of rough this year almost like he is just a tired old man. i also saw 7 bucks running together at daylight and all of them were shooters!! I love spending 12hrs a day looking at huge deer lol.

Looked on TNdeer trophy room and haven't seen any post for recent years. Anyone see any bucks dropped in the last say 2 years? Last season?

I know they had a rough season last year (wanna say Bruce said only 3 bucks taken) but were they nice ones, anyone know?
