Why are you not wearing one? Because they're so much trouble with a ladder stand. There is no excuse for it. You're right. not much trouble at all with a ladder stand. get a lifeline with a prussic knot that slides up and down. hook to the rope before you start to climb, slide the knot up the rope as you go. when you reach the top. hook to your tree strap and unhook from the rope. i would hate to see your little girl without her daddy. Again, not going to happen on 40 stands.
we are in agreement on most of the controversial topics(except cats)that come up on this site but not this one. no fall restraint = no climbing.

On 40 stands?
Not going to happen.
I'm thinking the same thing, but just not with the number 40. I'm thinking of making my own setups.

120' of nylon climbing rope for $70. Just need the rope for the prussic knot and some carabiner's and they start getting lower in price per.

Just a calculated risk stik. Climbing ladderstands in the dark is dangerous. Puting up and taking down ladderstands is even more dangerous (had a few falls doing that). Driving to my hunting property is dangerous. So is going to work in the woods and driving an ATV by myself in very, very rugged country. I've had some truly scary close calls on the ol' ATV. I've bearly broken a leg several times while just walking in the woods.
Getting out of bed and living life is dangerous.

that is true but there are things that make it less so.

And I take appropriate measures for as many of the dangers of life as is practical. I don't change parking spots without puting on my seat belt. Seat belts have saved my life twice. I wear safety equipment when running a chain-saw. But you can't cover everything.

Now when I used climbing stands, I learned to wear a safety harness system. The scars from multiple falls were enough to convince me that was a worthwhile inconvenience. Basically, being proactive towards a high-probability event.

safety harnesses have saved me twice. i had a state trooper tell me once that if i had been wearing my seatbelt that i would have been killed. you WILL be injured by a fall from an elevated stand a seatbelt can save you OR kill you. i know you are as stubborn as i am and we will get nowhere with this exchange. i guess i can find out where to send flowers

Don't get me wrong. I'm by no means saying NOT wearing a harness is a smart thing to do. It isn't, and I have no excuse beyond inconvenience. And I'll be the first admit I'm taking a risk. Climbing up and down a ladder stand in bulky clothes, in the dark, in the cold, etc. is dangerous--potentially lethal.
So is cleaning the rain-gutters on my 2-story house. So are many other things I do. Just a calculated risk.
