I don't miss it because i still hunt the same way. I take what ever i feel like that's in season. I could give a rip about having to justify it to anyone. Plus that's why i like hunting by myself.

I have always loved seeing deer and learning about them and their idiosyncrasies......having said that i never really learned anything when i was shooting the first deer i saw at the first moment i saw it....it was only after i let them walk that i actually started learning some deer behavior.... wouldnt trade the good ole days for any of the great times i am haveing now seeing more deer and working food plots and watching them on trail cams..... What more could a deer hunting fanatic want?

Honestly IMO the hunting shows is what did it to hunting. people watch these show and think thats how hunting should be.
Especially these kats that haven't put there time in and don't even know what the good ole days were about.... We didn't have scentlok, high price bows, or even had to pay to hunt property... I could walk a 1/4 mile from the house and hunt all day... I hunted out of tree stands that were made out of wood and the only camo I had on was a T-shirt... This is when I was a teenager... and shooting at any legal tree was a blast.... I have read a lot of these post and just because we see more deer and we have evolved into better hunters doesn't make it the good ole days now.... It just makes it easier..... Never heard of Bas Pro or any of these other companies 25-30 yrs ago..... Just went hunting and had a blast... I also started hunting in TN in the late 80's when they didn't even report deer killed in Knox Co. back then... Things sure have change and hunting has changed....JMO

I remember growing up in southern Michigan,They would close the schools in some county'.s I could not sleep the day before deer season,Those were special days in my memory.
Just being out with your cousins or uncles and maybe a friend or two,No Hunter Orange just a plaid jacket( red) if you had one ,No tree stands ,just sitting on a log or stump hoping something might come your way.
Those were truly special memories

IMO far too many folks who shoot smaller bucks worry about the other folks who focus on bigger bucks too much.
I think that goes the other way too.

One last shot what the good ole days were about:................
1. You could have a rifle/shotgum in a gun rack in the window of your truck without getting it stolen or pulled over by the police...
2. You could hunt property with a hand shake and not pay a dime to hunt that property.....
3. You could buy hunting gear at a cheap price and still kill a deer.
4. You only had to tell others how many points your deer had and nobody cared what it measured or how old the buck was....
5. You didn't even have to wear camo to go hunting to kill a deer...
6. The only tree stands were made out of wood...
7. Most hunters didn't use tree stands and found an ole tree to sit by...
8. You never seen many other hunter while in the woods...
9. shooting a deer was something special...
10. it wasn't so easy that a blind hog could find an acorn....'
This is what the ole days were about... If you think its about having more deer in the woods and making hunting easier... They make deer hunting videos were you can kill all the deer or record bucks you want............

No our deer populations have gotten to the point where simply killing a deer is little if any challenge. Most hunters have grown up these days with lots of deer to hunt, and as they mature they begin to get more selective. They then pass that selectivity onto their children.
I don't miss the slaughter days, I far enjoy the way I hunt now and I don't find it complicated, it is still simple and enjoyable to me.
IMO far too many folks who shoot smaller bucks worry about the other folks who focus on bigger bucks too much. I could have posted that exact thing.
