Having graduated from 2 different tracking schools in law enforcement it got me thinking...
Do you think that all the products out there on scent control really work? Scent Away, 99%, scent suits, boots....and so on.
Example: After school and was thinking on the subject, I have a friend with a good deer dog and has found a lot of deer for folks. I took an old hide and soaked it with scent away and myself with the above on, drug it through the woods for about a half mile. Called my buddy and told him to let the dog go and as sure as I'm writing this the dog found me and the cape. So does it really work...
Whats your thoughts?

Do some of the scent reduction products reduce your scent? You bet. Is there any way to eliminate your scent? Not a chance.

That I know and we tried all the tricks at school. But is there to much on scent control? My Grandpa never worried about it nor did his buddies. Back in the day... Just something to talk about...

If you play the wind right, you can smear yourself with dog poop and it won't matter.
But when hunting locations when deer can come from any area, or winds swirl, I believe scent reduction is probably a wise move.

Yep I don't believe anything is 100% but I like to believe that it is helping. Like BSK said...I try to have that wind in favor but we all know how that can be unreliable through out your hunt. So I like to try and keep my attitude toward my efforts to eliminate scent as positive as possible. Like working a fishing lure CONFIDENCE can be the difference in success.

If you walk to your stand, the deer can smell you. So unless you can fly or have a jet pack, the best bet is to reduce your scent as others said. Also, a deer can smell you and not act differently--sometimes they don't care because for whatever reason they don't perceive threat.
From my observations, there is no such thing as scent free. A deer has the ability to notice almost every branch or blade of grass you make contact with, and follow every footprint. Sometimes even the slightest scent is enough for alarm, but a lot of the time scent reducing measures, especially monitoring wind direction, will keep scent levels in check

I've always said scent reduction products "work" (i.e. help) because of my results with them (dramatic increases in close-up deer sightings once an extensive scent reduction program was begun). However, our results are probably due to the extreme measures we adopted for scent reduction. Without including all those those extreme measures, scent reduction products probably wouldn't have helped much at all.
A hunter gets up in the morning, doesn't shower, puts on his hunting clothes that have been in the dirty clothes heap in the closet, goes to a fast food restaurant on his way hunting, smokes in his truck, stops at a gas station to fill up, gets in his stand wearing all the same clothing, and then decides to spray down with scent reduction products. Is that going to help him? Probably not.
