Is that going to help him? Probably not.
Thats it right there. A spray bottle of scent away just isn't going to cut it. Starts from the moment out of bed for me. If I'm going to do it might as well try to get as close to perfection as I can. Heck I even spray down the truck even though I change into hunting gear when I arrive in woods.

I also think the notion of "playing the wind" is less valuable wisdom for people who hunt ridge and hollow type terrain like where I hunt. Hunting high in the morning and low in the evening may help, but it's rare to have a prevailing and consistent wind direction.

Sometimes, even with consistent wind, I notice that deer which are upwind have caught my scent in the air--so just because the wind is in your face, doesn't mean deer are incapable of catching your scent upwind. Since we can't see the air, we don't realize that it flows in all kinds of weird directions as it's directed by the contours of the land.

That is definatly a consideration in the mountains of e tn,...the wind will eddy just like water currents....there are places and conditions that the wind will move backwards into a hurricane....
high pressures in one spot will create a vacum in another....

Yup, and that's exactly why I started going to such extremes to reduce my scent.

on farms with cattle, I intentionally step in manure as a cover scent.

BSK,

Were you ever able to gain control over those cigarettes?

Yes and no. I'm not smoking cigarettes anymore but I am smoking a pipe. Not because it looks sophisticated, but because pipe tobacco is a heck of a lot cheaper than cigarettes! I'm now only spending about $5/month on my habit/addiction.

Although when I hunt, I keep a piece of nicotine gum tucked against the inside of my cheek.

Okay, on the subject of cigarette smoke, Ive killed deer with a cigarette in my mouth. I know a bad habit but I play the wind as much as possible.Again another scent. When I go check game camera's I smoke. I don't know about all the big hoop-la over scent control to that extreme from head net to rubber boots?

Sorry, I know this is suppose to be deer hunt, but have you tried "Chantix" (spelling). I used it several years ago and it work great for me as well as brother and few friends/associates. Can't say it will work for you but I can say I love not smoking any more, feel great and breathe better. Just trying to help you. ;\)
