Jell-o comes in a million different flavors and I was wondering if using jell-o as an attractant would be considered baiting. An examination of ingredients shows nothing more than gelatin, aspartame, coloring,a bunch of crazy stuff i cant pronounce namely phrnylanine or something like that and artificial flavors, none of the ingredients are of a grain derivative. What would you say twra enforcement guys? I read the state law on baiting already ,just needing your professional thoughts.

The reason I ask is because I was reading the baiting thread over in the general forum and I became curious as I was making my son some jell-o

I think he said yes as in it was bait. Then I think he followed up with no when you asked him if he was TWRA. Just my take on it. I remember a thread about this back a month or so ago and if I remember correctly someone from TWRA did confirm it was considered bait.... don't know for sure though, my memory ain't any better than my golf game. I am not TWRA but I did stay in a Country Inn & Suites in Chattanooga a few times.
Prolly got a little meth poisioning there to help out your golf game they have been know to do that there

Guess I'll have to wait for a Twra explanation if it is bait or not and what makes it bait but I appreciate you guys responding anyway. I was making my boy some blackberry jello right after reading the baiting topic and got curious. It is an interesting subject definitely.

Jello is a food. The last time I read Tenn Hunting Guide it was anything that is a food is bait. A Hershey's candy bar is food and would be bait. Pepper is a food grain and so is cocoa which makes chocolate. Food coloring is a food.
Jello has sugar and/or artificial sweeteners in and that alone would make it a food.
Salt is a mineral while pepper is a food. A mineral is in the earth and is dug up from the ground while pepper is grown in a plant. The ocean water can be dried out and it will leave the salt at the bottom of the bucket, that's where we get our "Sea Salt".
Not all food cannot be recovered from a body while all minerals inside a body can be recovered and used again. Gelatin in the form of Collagen can be recovered from the animal bones and other animal parts.

I guess it falls under "mixture of any ingredients as used for food purposes". Too bad they don't make acorn flavored jello. Lol

There was sometalk last season about using koolaid. Jello would fall into the same category...both would be considered bait.

Here is a little head scratcher!
If you used unflavored gelatin to make your own jello and just added Salt to it no sweetener would that be baiting?

Exactly what IS gelatin anyway?
Basically it's a protein substance obtained by boiling animal bones and connective tissue. (Hey, you asked!) But where does the raw material for gelatin come from??? You guessed it! The meat industry where all that's left but the moo is converted to gelatin. The end result is a pale yellow, dry powder. The powder is about 85% protein, 13% water, and 2% mineral salts, free of additives and preservatives. Gelatin contains about 18 different amino acids joined together in a chain. Eventually a polymer in the shape of a triple helix (or triple spiral) is the complex form that gives gelatin its unique ability to, well, "gel" things.

Why don't we just legalize baiting and we wouldn't have to beat the system...
Food for thought....
