Did you read my signature?Make NE perry county unit L?I took out as many as I could last year, still seing groups of 8 to 10 in Dec/Jan Yep you might need some help. How much land you have available to you? And when you say groups of 8-10. Do you mean 24-30 total deer or 8-10 total in family groups of 3-5.

Have seen groups up to 17 of slicks And I though west TN was bad! I normally only bow hunt but will whip out the old .270 for some doe culling. Try to target the oldest and largest ones possible. And try to get 3/day if ever possible. I've killed a doe early afternoon, just let her lay right where she was and 20-30 minutes later take another one in the same field. Sure they run off when you shoot but what people don't realize sometimes is that the deer only go 30-50 yards into the woods a lot of the time and just set back until it seems all clear again. If they didn't SEE you, your good to keep hunting right there.

YOU COULD GO OUT OF SATE AND PAY FOR PEN RAISED DEER SAY 25,000 FOR A 200 INCH DEER. I RATHER SHOOT A TENNESSEE MOUNTAIN DEER FOR FREE.

How many Whitetail states is in the average. I know it was a probable statement, but considering so many states that have huntable Whitetail numbers, I think we might be a little above "average". Of course I don't have data, but that's my probable guess.

I might agree.... you would never know it by some of the guys on here crying about buck limits... Some people don't know when they have it good...

Tennessee's deer hunting is above or below average based on what?
By many measures, we're WAY ABOVE AVERAGE, whatever that is now. Not to mention, "average" has been improving in most states. And over the past decade, TN has improved faster than most others.
But what exactly are we looking for?
If we want more time to hunt with a more effective weapon, TN has about twice as many hunting days as KY, and you don't have to quit hunting (for a buck) after you kill one. One of my most disappointing days afield was once when I killed a buck on Opening Day of the KY deer season, while planning to be there for the next 10 days.
The main area where we could see great improvements now in antlers scores has more to do with the hunters than anything else. As long as most have lower standards for labeling a buck a "shooter" in TN, they can expect to see fewer bucks scoring high on the B&C scale.
We usually work to meet our expectations. What do you expect? What is it you really want from your Tennessee hunting experience?
If we want it to be more like what we've experienced in KY, maybe we should "think" more like we do when we hunt KY?
How many times have you heard someone say they passed up a 120-class buck (with no regard to age) in KY, but say they wouldn't hesitate to shoot a buck like that "back home" (with no regard to age)?
I believe the deer hunting in Tennessee and the manner in which TWRA is "managing" is above average, way above average in some respects. But no reason not to expect everyone, most notably the hunters, to be willing to do what it takes to make things better, if that's what we truly want.
