comes to mind when asked about a favorite deer hunting story? Don't necessarily have to be a tagged hunt, but just something that you remember that sticks out in your mind from year to year.

I remember one cool crisp Nov morning I was in my favorite #1 stand and saw some movement coming up over the adjacent ridge. Come to see it was a red fox easing up along the ridge top. After a little while he had made it to within 10 yds of my stand, and proceeded to lie down on an old log and he took about a 3-4 min snooze! Then his head popped up, ears perked, looking just to my right, and past me. I slowly, and I mean slowly, turned my head to the direction he was staring to see 7 does coming off the ridge behind me at about 70 yds or so. Me and that fox watched as they passed within 25-30 yds of us, then out of sight. Just a few min later, some dogs began barking like crazy and here they came back wide open! 3 went to my right, and 4 to the left. Oh, the fox? He took off like a streak of lightning at about the second bark of a dog, and got some serious gone! I just remember that moment so clearly each and every year. \:\)

The first deer that each of my 2 boys killed, those 2 hunts are at the very top of my list in hunting memories! I was way more nervous on each of those than I think I have ever been while hunting for myself. I too remember every detail from those 2 hunts better than any others!

My favorite stories are the funny ones, where someone did something really stupid or had something crazy happen.

I was hunting some persimmons one evening,(My fav.place).It was getting down near what I call the Golden hour ,the hour before dark. And I heard a noise ,a slight rustle in the leaves.I turned to find A mother skunk and what I assumed to be her young.
I stayed long after dark ,and finaly decided I need to take a chance and get out of that place.I climbed down out of my permanent stand and took off.
I hit every spider web in the woods,HATE THEM THINGS,but made it back to the truck.\:\)

My first deer, with my first rifle, that I paid for with my money, and it was the first shot out of that gun.

No kidding, you were very lucky to have even hit it, let alone kill it! Sometimes things are just meant to be!
