i played a round of golf sunday afternoon and noticed that a couple of oak trees had a lot of acorns on the ground around them. they looked about 3/4 developed. Dry conditions?? what do you all think is the reason for the early shed????

Dry spell, or they were rotten or the worms got in them. Natures way of shedding the waste to sustain.

The mast may have been to heavy for the tree and the dry spell signaled it to get rid of some of them for the overall benefit of the rest of them. If that makes any sense.

I just walked in from catching bullfrogs at the pond with my kids and noticed the ground was covered with tiny acorns. I was wondering what was going on too. Thought it might be because of all the digging Ive been doing in my yard?

Trees dumping the fruit/nuts they can't support during dry conditions.

I saw three or four squirrels cutting in a white oak a couple of days ago and thought that it was a little early for that as well.
