Like most things, there is a "mixed" blessing aspect to hunting shows.
Sadly, I believe the shows most viewed by the younger hunters in particular are the shows with the most propaganda, mainly selling gimmicks, and creating unrealistic expectations.
Unlike what we're more likely to see simply by turning on the TV, the QDMA Convention did have a bit more "screening" as to the content of MOST of their presentations being geared more towards the QDMA's themes.

Propoganda is not a big part of the curriculum.

Propoganda is not a big part of the curriculum.
It sure sould be.
I don't even remember what class it was, but I took a class in college that examined--in detail--propoganda methods and the aspects of human psychology these techniques play upon, as well as how advertisers have incorporated these tools in their product advertising. Those lessons were real eye-openers, and the information has really stuck with me. I would have to say that may have been one of the most important classes I took in school.

With so much openly displayed outrageous behavior these days it is refreshing to see respectful young men and women Rich. In my opinion the most important thing you can teach your child and is key to their success in life.
QDM or just quality outdoor time in general is a great for kids they learn to care about people, animals and the environment. It also helps them set and achieve goals. Their self-respect will skyrocket when they see themselves achieving those goals.

Food for thought...
Does anyone think that the subject of deer hunting would be where its at now if it wasn't for these shows?
I truly believe that the industry has helped in a lot of ways to promote hunting. Yes it is blown out of proportion and education is the key. But for me it would not be where it is if it wasn't for some of the shows...

Weird how things work out sometimes,my son has been fully included in all parts of hunting since he was in diapers, but hes just not much interested anymore.Last year,I believe he hunted twice with me,he has killed 7 or 8 deer, one nice 8pt,put him on em,even saved spots for juvy.Maybe I made it too easy.

Football Hunter,
What ever you do don't give up...I know how hard it is to keep them interested. I had 2 girls and as soon as they found boys hunting was over, but now they like to go with me every once in a while and I'm thankful for that...

One thing I noticed at the QDMA show was a lot of the young men where Amish.

I don't know the answer.
Most of the shows for which have been most widely attended have involved deer hunting, and to a lesser extent turkey hunting, over the past many years.
Another question I'd have to raise . . . . . . . Without all the promotion for deer hunting, might we be seeing more participation in small-game hunting by young hunters?
IMO, young (or new) hunters who get hooked on small-game hunting prior to deer hunting are more likely to become lifetime hunters.
Unlike so many "deer" shows, the QDMA has been about so much more than just deer hunting, bringing to deer hunters, young and old, a better understanding, appreciation, and connection to the land, the habitat, and wildlife in general. They have been a "stand-out" organization, and I'd like to see them focusing more on those original themes.
