I'm not really tracking the argument here. Is the suggestion that kids at the expo were there because they watch hunting shows? If so, what is the evidence of that? If not, how are hunting shows even relevant to their precense at the expo?
I hunted and went to expos as a youth, but never watched shows.
And if the values imparted by hunting tv shows are adverse, which I think largely they are, then what kind of hunters will they bring to the fold...those with false notions of what true hunting is about?
The one excellent show is the one that's been around the longest...Kentucky Afield. That's an awesome show and I wish it were available nationwide. Teaches good values, shows the real deal and puts sportmen in a good light.

One thing I noticed at the QDMA show was a lot of the young men where Amish. I'd bet a lot of the young men there were Baptist, too. Don't know if that's anything more than happenstance, but I do have some Mennonite friends with a large farming operation who have really embraced QDM on their Tennessee operations. And does seem all types of hunting are a part of life with many of the Mennonite and Amish heritage. I can see their "connection" to the land being a good fit with much of the original QDM ideology. Thats good to know,Amish all around my place,I always figured they were whack em and stack em,dont really know why I thought that.

The hunting shows anymore seem to have turned into pour something out and the deer will come. Little if any real know how about deer behavior and more about the easiest way to have success. Michael Wadell has stooped to a new low, even for him, with his hunting of Cmere deer. What a total POS he is, and has little if anything to offer the hunting community. He is just one example out of the majority who are going this direction.
As far as the QDMA and the kids, far too many folks feel that QDM itself turns kids off. That is not the case when children are properly educated and raised.

Interestingly, you will find a strong contingent of Amish at all the QDMA events. They are big bow hunters.

Does anyone think that the subject of deer hunting would be where its at now if it wasn't for these shows?
The questions are, where is hunting now and is that a good thing?
Now aspects of the hunting industry certainly exist that have been great for hunting in general. Many products created by the interest in hunting have made hunting more enjoyable. Innovations in warm, stay-dry clothing have been great for hunting, as have advancements in weapon technology. The increased interest in deer management has also been a very good thing.
But the current "monster buck crazy"--fueled primarily by hunting shows--is a very bad thing. This has created a system where the the value of a deer is based solely on its antler score. That's a very bad thing for hunting.

I remeber,oh about 1984 or so,going to my friends lease with him and his dad.Growing up in SC I had certainly never seen a "BIG BUCK" while hunting,or anywhere else. His dad was the Chief of Law Enforcement and Boating for the SCDNR.When we walked in the cabin, there were mags spread all over the kitchen table,Field and Strem,Outdoor Life,And Deer & Deer Hunting, when I saw that cover of D&DHting,I was hooked on big bucks for life,I changed right there.I started asking his dad all sorts of ?s about bucks,he was overwhelmed almost.
