You can buy it all at CO-OP, but a put some TR on one farm, will be back on it Sunday showing it to client, to see how they are hitting it. Think I got 400lbs of the mix, cheaper than 4 TR's

When you mix this stuff do you have to do something to make it stick together or do you just mix it and pour it out?

I quit putting them out last year because I got tired of paying for 4 of them at a time.

Just use plain ol loose trace mineral salt! Its a fraction of the cost and works as well if not better than the TR does. I switched exclusivelly several years ago after testing and proving there was NO advantage in use by the TR whatsoever, NONE!

Where do you get the loose stuff Winchester?

Co-op or Tractor supply, most any farm supply.
I literally tried to find a reason or justification to pay the inflated price for the TR,just because it seemed it may be better, but after comparing, there simply is no benefit whatsoever in paying the extra money, anywhere from East TN all the way to Humphries county, where ive tested several tracts in between. Now dont get me wrong, the TR works just fine, its just that its not a bit better and costs much much more.

Everyone has to make up their own mind on that. I find several advantages to Trophy Rock. I find that it lasts much longer than loose salt. Loose salt rapidly leaches through the soil, while the rain run-off from the Trophy Rock keeps new salts entering the soil for months.

I too have run comparison results between Trophy Rock and other products, including trace mineral salts. Results vary just like the tests of different types of "bait" to use for running baited camera censuses. In some areas, Trophy Rock gets the most responses. In other areas, other products get the most responses, including trace mineral salt. In some areas, no difference exists in usage between any salt/mineral product--they are all used equally.

Each unique location will dislay unique usage patterns, and the hunter/manager has to use trial and error to find what is preferred/used the most.

In my opinion, the location of where you start a salt lick has more to do with how much it is used than what you put in it. If you just randomly dump a block or TR in the woods you will not see the same amount of usage as if you choose a spot right off of a travel route or right off of an entry/exit trail for a food plot or field.

I have used both over the last 7-8 years in the two licks I established, and have even switched back and forth from a trace mineral block to a TR when I "recharge" the same lick and see no significant changes in number of deer using it or whether more bucks or does use it. As BSK said, there are some advantages of TR over loose salt, but it is also more $$$$.

The best salt lick I had on my place was my wife's grandfather's old smoke house. He used to put up salt-cured hams and such and the deer had licked a ring 6" deep all the way around it, and there was a hole 2' deep right in front of the door (I guess more salt was deposited there). It hasn't been used as a smoke house for 25 years, and the deer have finally pretty much stopped using it.

Where I used to live there was an old smoke house. Cattle ate all the ground around the house and licked the cement-block walls clean of paint.

Yep, I have also saw deer tear the ground up right beside the highway, where salt had been piled up in the past for winter use of salting the roads! I have also watched them lick the screw in steps to my stand, and once while fishing for a dropped release, I had 2 different bucks come along and lick/chew my pull up rope that I was holding the other end of at the time! lol All I can figure is they were getting some salt from where my hands/likely sweaty when I installed the steps and handled the rope! I have since started spraying my pull up rope with scent killer! ;\) Although that day it was like bait for these young 2.5 yr old bucks! \:D
