I was reading an article in a Mag. not to long ago.It was about '"Why older does make better mothers" Well I kinda seen it first hand yesterday as I walked to the river across a freshly cut hayfield.
As we ,(me and my ole dog) were walking down the bank to the water, a young doe and 2 fawns bolted out of nowhere. One of the fawns stayed up with momma, but before I knew what was going on my dog was on the other little one. I took off my hat and started hitting the dog and yelling.HE turned the baby loose,I think with no damage.
The point I am trying to make here is ,that last year we were walking not far from where this occured, and my dog happened upon an older doe with 2 fawns. Let me tell ya, I was in fear of my dogs life for a few minutes that ole gal was all over him beating him into the ground. I finaly got her attention and she give me a long hard stare.
But I am a firm believer now that the older mothers are better mothers. They are more likely to defend against predators.Just as the article said.
I still wonder if the baby would reunite with it's mother?

Yes, fawns will reunite with their mothers. They really have no problem finding them.

yep, they will mew and return to the area where spooked and pick up the trail and trail them like a blood hound. I have witnessed this first hand and they will grunt softly as they trail them too.....this is an awesome thing to witness if you should be able to be fortunate enough to do so.

Yep, they get back together quite easily most times, and I totally agree that the fawns with older mothers get a much better life lesson as well, when they are fortunate enough to grow up to weening age with their Momma.
