Anyone having hunting land within a mile of any border to that would mostly be wasting their time and money with small-scale food plots?
Small-scale summer plots, yes. Winter plots, no.

I'm trying to get some real "economic" value from any food plots, and it remains my opinion that most small-scale food plotters could get more value from their dollars and labor efforts by focusing more on habit changes than what or how many relatively expensive food plots they're maintaining.
If a hunter's main goal from "food-plotting" is to kill "bigger" bucks, I suspect most could get better results by doing nothing more than just raising their personal standards a notch (regarding what constitutes as "shooter") and hunting as far away as possible from any food plots.

I couldn't agree more. In fact, right now, I'm MAKING considerable money from my habitat changes (cutting patches of timber to produce more natural browse and cover).

While collecting pictures for our book Deer Management 101, I needed example pics of large-scale agriculture. These are the pics I took. Look familiar? (taken from the same location as Football Hunter's pic). Wow,we were almost in the same spot.

Same here! I'm looking at it as we are getting paid to have better hunting. It's a win-win sitation. Timber is selling high in my area and the trail-cams are catchin some dandy's!

Those agri fields look like a night time big buck hangout. There is no telling what kind of visions the TWRA's heat camera could pick up there.
