If a dominant older buck hears another buck grunt, does he
really care? I know it makes a differnce with the buck to doe
ratios, but what about an average middle Tennessee deer habitat.

I know, what is average, but I think most local deer hunter know
exactally what I'm talking about.

Real world hunting (for the majority).

Who knows what hears if it's out of sight and doesn't appear? I'd guess most deer that respond are never seen because they figure it out before the hunter sees tham. That being said, I've still grunted in a bunch of bucks hunting average deer habitat. During the rut I've also grunted in hot does which in turn sometimes brought in bucks.

IMO, it can't really hurt to grunt, but I have scared younger bucks off by grunting. Guess they thought a dominant buck was close by.

Most times it depends on the deer's mood, IMO.

Much like landing a spinner bait on a bass's nose and it not biting.....some times mood is everything.

good luck

I don't think we understand deer vocal communication well enough to say anything with certainty.

Each and every deer is different, and there isnt a yes or no answer here, as many deer react in many different ways.

calling does not work all the time but i have killed 9 or 10 bucks that i called in

i never call unless i see a deer and need him/her to come closer for a shot or will have no shot at all unless i call to it

even if i know it is not a shooter i will often call to it just to see if i can get it closer and i can't not tell you how many i have called in and some from 400yds or more

i never go hunting without my grunt call and the can call

I've grunted dozens of bucks in to my setups, and during the whole month of November, nearly everytime I rattle, i have bucks come in!
