For me there's two distinct things that get me primed for deer season.
First, it's that first really good frost. It's that cleanness that seems to be in the air that first COLD morning. You all know the one. The one that smells a little bit different from all the ones that came before it and maybe even a bit differently than those that will follow. I especially love that first cold , clear morning just before daylight when the darkness seems to linger just a bit longer than a normal day.
And secondly, it's the first sighting of the season. We all see deer pretty much all year long, but it's just not the same to me. Being in the stand and seeing the first deer of the season is special and something that always gets me going.....!
Thanks and enjoy your season, it's getting closer!!
Good luck

Opening day does it for me,it would be nice if it was cool, but either way that first morning is great, curiously, the last few openers in KY have been cooler than the openers here, strange luck, but Ill take it.

My season starts in august with squirrels. I hunt them all the way till bow, sometimes well into bow. I know its time to put the 22 when the leaves start to turn, the mornings are cold and the deer are no longer red and potbellied. Then its game time.

I stay pumped, but opening day, the first sighting of the season on stand, and the anticipation of the weather getting cold really do it for me.

That first cold front that brings in that fresh breeze out of the north west. Seems like I can smell the aspens!
