Last year I had a doe come in and she was looking back so I got excited and got my gun up. Here came a spike in with his nose to the ground. She kind of aggressively moved toward him to get him to leave her be. Meanwhile another little buck came in to check things out. He ended up trying to mount the spike. That poor little fella didn't know what to do. I think he came out of the closet that day as they both went in a different direction than the doe did.

I made a doe nearly faint one time years ago. I was one the ground behind a big oak tree as the deer was passing by at about 8 feet away. I was young and feeling spunky, so I jumped out from behind the tree in front of the doe and yelled boo!
Lord have mercy it was funny. Didn't kill a deer that day, but I had some fun messing with that doe.

i got down out of my stand and walked out to the truck to pee. This was 20 years ago.
While walking back to the stand a small buck came walking toward me. I stopped and he kept coming. I froze while he walked past me so close that I could have touched him. he stopped one time and looked at me, but since I didn't move and the wind was right, he didn't seem alarmed at me.
he kept walking until he got past me and downwind. Once his nose caught my scent, he jumped straight up, turned and run about 40 yards before slamming on breaks and turning his head to look back. back then I was a meat hunter and he was downed with one shot to the neck.

Nothing too crazy. I was on a buck only hunt at the edge of Fall Creek Falls property when I had 2 does walk out of the park and for 30-minutes rolled around on the ground in front of me maybe 20-yards away. I was mad for a while then figured why not just enjoy the show. They goofed off like 2 little kids.

Why would you let the deer walk by you that close and not shoot it?Were you trying to let it get to 500 yards to see if you could make the shot. Just messing with you don't write a novel to respond to it.lol
Actually, a very good question. It is hard to raise a gun and shoot while a deer is looking your way and mere feet away......was that short enough?

Short and to the point and i didn't have to take a break half way through it like the other ones.

My nephew had shot a doe right at dark.We were hunting the same field.I started walking over to him at dark.I was watching his flashlight as I walked up to him.A fawn saw his light too and ran right up to him while he was looking at the ground for blood. It scared my nephew so bad that he jumped back .
All I could see was my nephews light going in circles and this little deer going in and out of the beam.He ran the deer off several times but it kept running back up and jumping right in front of him out of the dark.
That was the year ehd was so bad and we saw a bunch of spotted fawns that had little or no fear of humans.
I would be willing to wager he killed the fawns mother and that is hwy it refused to leave.

hard to say that year. With the ehd outbreak it was totally different than any year I have ever seen before. There were spotted fawns just walking everywhere that year.you could see them at all times of day and walk right up on a lot of them.most of them were in the 30 lb range.
i was always worried about what would happen to spotted fawns if the doe was shot early until that year.I found out they would be fine.those fawns other than be small and not afraid of people were doing fine.
