I saw my first deer at Catoosa in the mid 60's and I was freaked out. An intrigue and facination for the animal that you hunt, not only makes it "fun", but it drives you to pursue that animal.

I put in for the quota hunts @ Catoosa, that one should be a shooter by now.:)

If deer hunting isn't fun, then I'm insane. Because I spend my whole year thinking about deer season and to put that much thought, time and effort into something that isn't fun is crazy.
Personally, I like all the little gadgets and what not. Also, I'm all for passing deer in hopes of growing bigger ones. I like to be improving in everything I do, and killing bigger deer is a way I do that.
Having said that, it is each persons right to decide what they want to shoot. And no one can say which is the right way to do it. As long as you enjoy it. ditto

As long as I "want" to hunt, it's FUN!
If the day ever comes that I'm like some people.....where I feel it's only fun if I "kill" something. It's no longer fun! That would only be about ego and "keeping up with the Jones'".
I've found myself passing more deer as the years add up. Often that means going without a buck for the year. But I still have fun doing it that way because I don't care about just killing something to post or brag that I killed "something".
If I don't make it fun for ME. I ain't gonna do it!

It is fun to me. I don't worry about the details. If I get cold, I go home. If it's raining, and if I don't feel like dealing with the rain, I go home. Since I don't have any control over what the people do in the fields surrounding mine, I don't worry about it.
I will shoot what I want, depending on my mood. I hunt within the rules and let the chips fall where they may.
