I was muzzleloader hunting and a good buck was standing in a field out of range. Another bigger buck walked out of the woods and they torn into it. They hit so hard that the first buck was temporarily knocked out on his feet and went down. He layed there for about 60 seconds before he got up and ran. I've heard knock down drag out fights from my stand a few times but the bucks weren't visible. Last year I had a fight going on close by but just on the other side of the ridge I was on. When I came down I went to investigate and found where they had been fighting and found the fresh broken beam of an 8 pointer. I've seen lots of sparring.

I have witnessed one real good encounter a few years back and after the fight was able to grunt in a pretty good 10 pt.(on the wall) looking for the other buck . My tip to any who sees this and would like to harvest one of the bucks after the break up grunt ferverously ! ;\) I have seen several sparring type encounters . A sight to behold but be focused if you would like to harvest one of them , they can be out of sight in a twinkling of a eye !!!

Lots of sparring but no real fights. However, I did find a site where a fight had occurred. Saplings were uprooted and broken over and the ground look like it had been turned by machinery.

In addition, in '78 I got to see two monster bucks--a 22-pointer and a 12-pointer--that had locked antlers and died. That was in Logan County, KY.

I have seen one spar (not a real fight) from my stand.

However, about 20 years ago I saw a Cades Cove UFC style Cage Fight. It was incredible... I can still remember it today. Lasted for a good 20 minutes. A number of deer stood and watched, not only people.

I would have loved to shoot one of those bucks, but bow season was closed in Cades Cove that day!

I have a picture of a buck from Cades Cove (taken 5 years ago), where the buck is completely wet and had three large cuts on his front shoulders and face. They all have streaks of blood in them. I have it framed in my home office. This buck also has a looped right browtine. In the browtines is caught a piece of fresh cedar tree! \:\)

in KY a few years ago i got in the stand way before daylight and as it just started to get light enough to see in the field i heard two deer running in the woods behind me and i was thinking it was a buck chasing a doe but i could not see in the woods yet, i needed about 10 more min. i was hoping they would hang around long enough. about 5 minutes go by when i hear them lock up and it sounded like they were trying to kill one another. it finally got light enough to see them but i could not get a shot because they were all over the place. when they finally stopped fighting the loser walked off slow while the bigger one escorted him. i shot the bigger of the two which was a 4.5 yo 8pt that scored 132 and field dressed out at 185lbs.

the best 30 minutes i ever spent in the field and i will never forget it and my girlfriend at the time was with me

I have been around penned deer facilities where no one is allowed into the pens with mature bucks around the rut. It is simply too dangerous. A big mature buck that has no fear of Man is a truly dangerous animal.

I don't know if you could call this really fighting or not, but definitely during the rut. \:\)

I have not personally seen it with deer, but Elk yes.

I have seen it at a distance. Fall 2003 i was still hunting with a bow in north central ohio. I was approaching my set which was were two fence rows made a "T" and there was gate on one side which stayed open. As I approched the set I could hear the "clacking" way off. I had no choice but to creep up to the fence row for a look. On the other side of the clover feild appx 200yds I got to watch the sparring match until it broke up. They were small bucks.
