BGG, is this the first year where only max preference points will have a chance for the PI draw. Since it seems every year someone will get lucky and draw a tag without max points. If that is the case, that is very discouraging to not even have a chance at the draw. Thanks

It is my understanding that since the point system was implemented you will not draw PI without max points.

Muddy is correct. You need max points to be drawn for Presidents Island. It has been this way for the last five years. No one has been drawn without max points.
Like Plinker said, keep your head up and keep applying. More folks drop out each year than just the ones that are drawn so the time is usually less than what you calculate.

Thanks for the answers. I look at it like this; I buy the sportsman's license every year so the drawing is free. There were no other hunts that really interested me this year. If I decide in the future that I want to go on any of the other hunts, Its a given with all the points I've accumulated on the presidents island draw, so I'm not discouraged at all!

Since I have four points, I'm only 38 years away... yeah
Seriously, that doesn't seem to fair to all the people that have just a few points built up. Can you not set aside 5 tags or so and draw from the lower points bracket. Just so there is a chance. Thanks

I'm a little confused.
Let me see if I have this straight. So, there are 318 with max points this year. If they are all holding out for the PI hunt, if the 40 (or whatever the quota is) get drawn, and then let's say another 60 drop out, that leaves 218 with max going to next year, right?
But, what about the 500 (or whatever the number may be) that have 4 points who are also waiting for PI and don't get drawn? Don't they now have 5 points and get added to the 218, making the number with max now 718 going into 2011?
So, isn't it possible that a person may never get drawn as more and more people max out at 5 priority points? Am I missing something?

Oh OK, I thought it maxed at 5. That makes sense then.

Well, after looking at the Quota application, it appears that 5 is the max.
2. Priority Drawing System: TWRA’s priority drawing system gives priority points (maximum of 5 points) to hunters based on the number of years they have participated without being drawn for a hunt.
Seems like they may need to re-visit that and increase the max points.
