Doug next year the people who have 5 points this year and dont get drawn this year will have 6 points next year. Well, after looking at the Quota application, it appears that 5 is the max. 2. Priority Drawing System: TWRA’s priority drawing system gives priority points (maximum of 5 points) to hunters based on the number of years they have participated without being drawn for a hunt.Seems like they may need to re-visit that and increase the max points.
Excatly seems like if that is the case you may never get drawed!

Next year the limit is six points. There is no maximum number of points you can get...it increases by one each year.

I look at it like this . . . . . There were no other hunts that really interested me this year. Apparently, quite a few are looking at it like this.
Why can't TWRA manage another WMA (or two or three) to provide an experience at least a little closer to the President's Island "experience"? And maybe a "quality" experience that even allows a firearm?
Even a relatively small portion of a single WMA (such as the 80,000-acre Catoosa WMA) could be set-up to essentially allow many more hunters to experience seeing large numbers of mature bucks while hunting.
Imagine:
A 20,000 acre tract in the middle of Catoosa WMA under a single weekend annually of buck deer hunting. Imagine the excitement added to TWRA's quota draw hunts if 100 hunters were drawn for this annually. I'd bet you this Catoosa idea would get more exclusive applicants annually than PI is currently.
Sure seems a huge segment of license purchasers are making it clear they prefer "just the opportunity" for a higher quality experience over "just another" public land draw hunt.

. . . . doesn't seem to fair to all the people that have just a few points built up. Can you not set aside 5 tags or so and draw from the lower points bracket. Just so there is a chance. IMO, the increasing priority is the "most" fair of any system.
It's much fairer than when an applicant only had a 1-yr forfeiture of hunting in exchange for a single "priority" status. Increasing priority guarantees that those willing to forfeit the most in their other WMA quota hunt opportunities will then be the ones with the greatest opportunity to be drawn for a particular one.
Under the "old way", you could apply for PI for a lifetime, and stand a high chance of never being drawn. Yet, someone else could simply apply on a whim and be drawn. At least now, those who apply the most, year after year, will be the ones ultimately being drawn. Should also be pointed out that this group of applicants is greatly increasing quota hunt opportunities for all other applicants who are not applying exclusively for PI.
Much of the increased frequency of hunters being drawn at places like Oak Ridge WMA can be largely attributed to that group of thousands who now apply exclusively to PI.

Its just very discouraging to know that i do not even have a remote chance of being drawn and I have to wait until all those people with one more point than I do get drawn before I'm even eligible. I wasn't aware of this over the years of putting in for the PI hunt. I thought everybody had a chance, but obviously the more priority points, the better odds of drawing a tag. Apparently, I was very mistaken and I totally disagree with the current system. It just seems a little unfair, not that its going to take forever to get drawn, but that I have ZERO chance of getting a tag for many more years at 4 preference points.

Vols, since you are so down and out about the draw system, just transfer your 4 points to me and I'll wait it out!!!! Seriously, it could be several more years before you get drawn, since 363 people are in the 4 point club with you. But hopefully it will be worth the wait.

Doug the max points increases by one point each year. Thus 5 is the max this year, six will be the max next year and 7 will be the max the next year and so forth.

I am down and out bullshooter. I've been fooled for 4 years now, but at least I can stop getting my hopes up on getting drawn. So the only question I have left is, When there are 20 people left with max preference points in 4-5 years, are there going to be leftover tags that will not be drawn.
This is obviously just my opinion, but drawing only max preference points for PI sucks and it should be changed. I'm just looking for a chance today, not 10 years from now....

No there wont be leftover tags The remaining tags will be drawn from the next highest number. Come on guys this system is not that hard too figure out. LOL Personally ithink it is the fairest way to do it I just wish it wouldnt be so long to wait to get drawn.

I've got it figured out. What I can't figure is only drawing people from the maximum preference points pool. I thought the whole reason to have that is to give preference to people with more points, not exclude those with less.
