It reminds me of one time in scouts at Philmont, when we hit the trail, it would be 4 days before a resupply. We had been cautioned not to carry too much, to keep the weight down.
A few guys had extra water purification tablets...one of the moronic leaders made them leave them behind because "it's just extra weight." Sure a enough, we ran out.
There is no reasonable advantage to carry so few shells that you might foreseeably run out. And if that happens, the lost opportunity could be vast.
My favorite story on the topic is of a guy hunting in my fathers huntclub up in the Jefferson National forest. Only carried 3 shells. Dropped off at his stand before light. By 8 AM had wasted them all, and took him until early afternoon to hike back to camp to get more. Everybody had a great laugh.

I use one of those soft shell holders that goes on the stock of the gun and holds 10 rounds. This is what and all i carry to the woods and i have never come up short with this setup...before i started using this setup i carried only what the mag would hold and one time shooting at a running deer i ran out of shells ...........and then he stopped and gave me a broadside shot at 100 yards.

Max that the firearm will take plus a full extra loading or 10 rounds.

If you were hunting in a wilderness area, say deep in catoosa or
deep in Cherokee forest, would you carry 3 or 4 rounds?
I wouldn't.
