Actually, TNDEER is NOT a representative cross section of TN hunters. Most TNDEER posters are avid hunters who kill far more deer than the "average" hunter.
When I first started hunting, "I killed ever legal deer I saw". That was 1-2 deer per year.
Now if I killed every legal deer I saw it would number close to 100 per season.

I think TWRA is doing an excellent job. I have seen nothing but improvement over the years that I have been hunting, especially deer and turkey. As for killing deer just because it is legal, I personally only shoot what I want to deal with. We all know the fun is over when the deer hits the ground. One deer on a hunting trip is enough for me. If you got three deer on the ground during the heat of bowseason, you have your work cut out for you. If you can afford to send three a day to the processor or process three a day yourself, then more power to ya!

"Of course, most think hunters aren't smart enough to read the regs each year and realize there is a limit change. "
I would not say most but there are WAY to many that do not read the regulations enough to understand what you can and can not hunt and what weapon you can use and when.It can be a little difficult sometimes trying to remember when your hunting on a specialized WMA. I always keep a copy of the regs in my vehicle to review.

I have "faith" in the TWRA. Heck, I even had faith in them when they were called the Game and Fish Commision. From hoping to see a deer (period) in 1968, to today. My "faith" is realized.

Many years ago, I concentrated my bow hunting efforts on JUST a couple spots in a couple Counties. I had VERY hard and set opinions on how many deer might be in those areas and how much pressure I thought they could take. I really thought I had a pretty good idea of how to manage those habitats to maximum hunting productivity and in all honesty, I was probably pretty accurate in my estimation.
Then, as years rolled by, and experience in hunting and management increased, my ideas of overall STATE WIDE management changed DRASTICALLY.
As my hunting area grew to more and more counties across Tennessee, and more and more states across the Southern part of the U.S., I came to realize that there were EXTREME differences not only State to State, but even within a particular COUNTY in deer and game populations.
Making BLANKET statements about killing fawns, or trophy class bucks on a particular piece of property MIGHT be accurate. But making those same statements for an entire County, let alone a State, IS RIDICULOUS...UNLESS you have a large data gathering AGENCY that is PAID to manage and gather data to support decisions.
Personally, I hunt and kill MANY deer each year. I enjoy the hunt. But, unlike MANY who make other choices, I rarely kill more than 1 or 2 deer in the same area. MOST times, the kills occur in different Counties or even States. ALL the meat is used. What my family and I don't keep we donate to Tn. hunters for the hungry.
TWRA has done more for (me) deer and turkey hunting in my lifetime than ANY other Government Agency I can think of by FAR!
(Excluding the GREATEST humans on earth...the U.S. Military of course)
