A lot is often said about hunting bean fields and other types of flat terrain. I would like to know how many of us have had success deer hunting in hilly terrain. Do you believe deer favor one type of terrain over another? Why? Why not?
Kindest Regards, TennesseeWhiskey

I hunt both and deer are far easier to kill in hilly terrain then they are in the flatlands IMO. They have specific funnels and areas where they like to move, and once those are found it is stupidly easy. Saddles, benches, and my favorite being areas where a steep drain has an easy "bridge" crossing it, where soil has built up and it makes it easy for the deer to walk contours.

I don't think deer will move to an area because of the terrain. They live with whatever terrain is in the area.
But to be successful, you better learn how deer use the local terrain.

I believe cover and food sources are more important than the terrain of an area.

With a bow flat land is much harder IMO
I also believe that mature bucks use terrain much more for scent checking and does use it a lot more for ease of travel.

Ditto ! Funnels , saddles , fence rows , etc. & easily manuvered areas seem to work early in the season but thicker areas seem to be productive in late season .

Terrain is utilized by deer to best benefit their movements. Deer will use whatever type terrain they happen to live in, to best fit their travel needs. Learning how deer will use the terrain in different areas you encounter, is a HUGE part of being consistently succesful in seeing and killing deer. I have said many many times, the only thing remotely predictable about a mature buck, is how he will use the terrain where he lives! Once you learn a good amount about how deer use the terrain, certain things actually jump out at you when looking at some areas!
