My name is Ken Parker and I am one of the
co-founders and board members for United Blood Trackers (http://www.unitedbloodtrackers.org).
We are a not for profit organization that promotes the use of tracking dogs for the recovery of wounded game. The past several years we have rotated our big event (Trackfest) from north to south. This coming year (spring 2011)we are looking to have it either in W TN., NE AR. or SE MO.

If you know of any property that might meet these needs and landowners who would be willing to open their property up to us please let me know. Here is what we are looking for.

Trackfest Requirements-

Two day workshop with possible third day for testing (Friday through Sunday or Saturday through Monday)

1. Minimum 10 pre-registered dogs to hold the event. Absolute maximum 20 dogs.

2. Minimum 15 pre-registered attendees to hold the event. No maximum.

Time of year should be late winter after deer season but before spring gets too warm. If using agricultural fields, timing must be such that there will be no conflict with spring planting.

Local contact person for the event site to assist the UBT Board in making local arrangements.

1. The local contact person must secure permission for the acreage needed for training. The UBT will send someone well in advance to inspect grounds and make sure the grounds are sufficient.

2. The local contact person will assist the UBT in finding reputable local companies for things like table and chair rental, catering, etc. The UBT will make the actual arrangements but it is always helpful to have a local person who knows the reputable companies in the area.)

Physical amenities necessary to put on the event:

1. Base location where 50 participants could meet and indoor classroom instruction could be given. (Water, electric, and restroom facilities)

This base location would need to be convenient to participant’s lodging (pet friendly) and a field location where actual tracking could be done.

2. Lunches and supper as a group (can be catered)

3. Tracking/Training grounds - *

Depending on the type of terrain available, approximately 15 to 20 suitable acres per participating dog is needed for dogs that already have some blood tracking/training experience.

a. Wooded grounds must have an open understory for visibility.

b. CRP, fallow fields, pasture or harvested fields work well as long as midday temperatures are not too high.

4. Testing grounds - If a Testing Day is scheduled, 15 or 35 acres of suitable ground per dog per test depending on the level test being taken.

5. Training grounds must be available 2 days before event for staff to determine exact locations for training and testing lines.

*note: determining amount of ground needed is very difficult without actually seeing the terrain. A deer can run anywhere and need to be tracked but for training purposes, grounds must have certain qualities of visibility and access to be useful for an event like this.

Thank you for your time

Both places have fallen through, so we are back in the hunt again. If anyone knows of a place please let us know.
