3 does per day is excess in my opinion.....i would prefer 1 per. Having said that i dont try filling my freezer with does once bow season is over cause i like watching the does during gun to see and stage for bucks checking them out....hard for a buck to check out does if they are being slaugtered by the family units .....I have killed three does in one day with a gun at season end and thus this did make it possible for me to put meat in the freezer rather rapidly.....but....i would prefer 2 buck limit and a one doe per day limit. I am not going to kill for killings sake.....Ooh D.A. i know those are blasphemous words to you ..lol.....I respect the program of game management and just know that wasnt in the spirit of the liberal limits and i want plenty for years to come so i take what i want/need...and i am satisfied with the management program the TWRA has implemented.

I have no problem with that. But FIRST we have to know what "better" is and what management practices would best achieve that goal.

But the point is according to the threads I mentioned earlier is some people blindly will kill any deer just because twra says they can. They don't use set management guidelines or thought processes of their own. Go back and read the fawn threads and see how many say they shoot fawns because they are "legal". Like because that because TWRA permits the harvest of fawns (or 3 does per day) they are obligated to do it.

Hunters in general have way too many "self proclaimed wildlife biologists" and "egos" for their own good. Let the professionals do their job. They are the ones that have the data to make educated decisions. They also have to make decisions to try and please all types of hunters. I personally think they have done an exceptional job. Call it what you want to, whether its resting on their laurels or whatever, if it wasn't for the TWRA this thread and this site would be non-existent. It is what it is!

I have voluntarily eaten my quota doe tags for sevierville the last two years...even tho twra obviously felt like there are enough deer in general over the county wide to support issuing the 2 doe tags...And they may be right, but, from my stand, and the years of my past experiance there, I just felt otherwise...so thats what I done...this year is non quota doe...I will decide on whether or not to kill a doe, or how many, based on the sign and overall deer usage that I see...

Regulations on harvest limits are not set for hunters they are set for the game you are trying to harvest. I guess they set it as the data they get?
TWRA is so much more than just deer limits.

I think things could be better, but my standards for better are way off the main stream of hunters in this state. To make more folks happy, the regs are pretty perfect. Sure there are loopholes and outliers which aren't happy but overall everyone has a chance.
With the new quota regs this year, things took another step forward IMO. And i feel with easier doe opps here in Unit B, less pressure will be the result on the younger age classes in bucks.
There are plenty of deer, there are plenty of big deer, and there is everything in between.
If I had my druthers season would be open or closed, no weapond restrictions, and end earlier then it does now. A 2 buck limit would be fine, but without restrictions on one of the two, it wouldn't make any difference.
