I have never hunted this WMA but a muzzleloader hunt there in October has my interest. I like to try new areas.

Can anyone give me any tips on a good place to start.

It is a great Trophy buck potential opportunity but i have not been able to connect there and have hunted over the years. I can tell you there is a fairly good class of 3.5 and older deer there because of the regulations of trophy hunting. I actually sat in a deer stand last year on the dec. hunt and didnt see a single deer for 7 hours the first day. i did manage to see 7 or 8 the next day including two small bucks. Still if you want a great opportunity to shoot a really good one it is as good as any place and the beautful mature hardwoods are a rarity anymore in our state.

Points leading down to Peter Cave Creek, below the dam. Some of
the points are steep, but get off on the side of the points, not
in the middle.

Thanks!

I like to hunt new areas. It's an either sex hunt so I can be happy with a doe for meat!

Don't count on a doe. Numbers are 1/10 of what they used to be in the 90's. Very low compared to 10+ years ago. Still see a few but not very many and very little sign compared to what is used to be.

I scouted there for a hunt in late 80's and there was sign everywhere. We saw several nice bucks to boot. Didn't kill anything on the hunt because I couldn't find the way back to the area we scouted. It is beautiful country for sure.

That's the reason the numbers are so low.

BGG,
Is logging an option at LH, or will nature reduce the mature
canopy on this WMA? I know there used to numerous fields on the
area, but are they clean cut crops for doves?

A few grown up field acres would help the deer, not to mention
the quail and rabbits.
