i hate a bad hay year for my horses but it will mean less fawns killed by the farmers.

One thing I particularly like about an above average acorn year I like years when there are a good acorn crop myself, makes finding them a no brainer. With a good acorn crop, I think the average hunter sees FEWER deer while hunting, then hunts less due to his disappointment of seeing fewer deer, usually resulting in a lower deer harvest. For this reason, I would expect the deer harvest to decrease in years of good acorn crops and increase in years of poor acorn crops,
During years with more than abundant mass the deer can quickly adapt and readily avoid areas of moderate to higher hunting pressure and still fill thier all nutritional needs... during low mass years the average core area for most any deer, and thus the herd as whole, is going to expand and folks are gonna be seeing more of em...imo

Tndrbstr,
What you stated above is generally the case. So it's somewhat baffling why the buck harvest went up in my area (in 2009 over 2008), although the doe harvest did go down.

my guess would be it had to do with the change in the muzzeloader season...

Seeing a big acorn crop developing (before they hit the ground) still doesn't mean we'll have many (edible) acorns.
Yup, all depends on the rainfall towards the end of the summer, especially August and early September.

with all this rain we have had and have been having that there will be as many acorns as last year?
Hard to say. I remember a few years ago, we didn't have much rain at all after the first week or two of June. July and August could be dry as a bone, like it was back then. I hope that's not the case, though.
