I have a Remington 11-87 in 12 gauge that is very acurate with the 3-inch Breenke (spelling?) slugs. I only use it on wma's that require shotguns and no rifles.

After all I read I got a little bored and took the old slug gun out and shot about 8 rounds at 100 yards. All eight in about a 4 inch group. I think I found an old friend... I will say there are 2 stands I'll be using my slug gun. Like a lot of you I bought one years ago for a special hunt in NC near the cost. Only muzzleloaders and slug guns allowed, took a nice 8 pointer at 87 yards with open sights...Anyway thanks for your comments...

I'll tell you what, when i lived in VA that is all they allowed in my area; shotgun no rifles, but I never killed one. Finally when i was in the Corps I hunted on Lejeune and again shotguns only. At that time slug barrels and slug guns were relatively new and I did not have one. I killed one there and since then i have killed a couple of deer with 12 ga slugs and even though I didn't have the range of a slug barrel, I will say this, there are not a lot of rifles that I have come into contact with that have that kind of knock down power. Usually when you hit one with a 12 ga it is bang, flop, at least it has been for me and other's I have talked to.
Being I only sight my .270 to 100 yds, as long as the deer aren't running, I think I will feel just as confident out to that range with the slug gun, once I get it sighted.

Got an rifled 870 a few years ago to hunt in no rifle, commy pinko states, but I use it a lot here, just dont have many "real" long shots, and 1 ounce of lead is pretty deadly.

For the money, I bought an H/R ultra slug gun for Illinois, as well as a buddy got one, and they are tack drivers. We have 20 ga., and both will shoot a 1- 1/2 group at 100yds, and still hold up well out past 150. Very confident with mine.
