I imagine many of us began deer hunting with a lever action
rifle; likely the trusted old 30-30 Winchester. Are there
any of us who still use lever action rifles for deer hunting,
or do you believe times have changed to the extent that a
long range bolt action is better?

Kindest Regards,

I have a Marlin lever action 30-30 that my Dad used. About 18 years ago I found myself on my first trip out to the woods on a hunt with my Dad in Fayette County and he killed a nice 8 point with that gun, with me sitting right beside him. That gun was given to me and I now have it put up to give to my boys to use.

Yes I hunt with a Marlin lever action 35 cal and I wouldn't trade or sell that gun for anything. I also have 30-06 and a 7mm but I really like hunting with the Marlin.

Killed my first deer with a 30-30 and I still take it out a few times a season..But since I got my Rem 700 in 30-06,I find myself carrying it more, way more than my 30-30.

Had one early in my deer hunting career, but now , and for the last 20 years I've shot a #1 Ruger single shot 7mm . The 30-30 has probably taken as many deer as any. Great guns.

I still have a Savage model 99 and it still drives tacks. I use to hunt with it some but it is retired now.
