Most exciting thing you will ever do. But dogs can't read posted signs. Ergo bad idea today. Agreed

Have never cared for it cause the ones who do it here have always shot everything and anything that ran out in front of them.

I guess I look at things a little different...Meaning if that's the way you want to hunt then who am I to say you can't. If we as hunters continue to down other hunters there right to hunt there way, I feel we are shooting ourselves in the foot. We are our own worst enemy...As long as it is legal you have the right to hunt the way you want... That's all fine and dandy IF you can keep your dogs on your land. But as soon as they cross property lines--and they will--now you've infringed on your neighbor's right to hunt the way they want.
BSK, you have a valid point but I know hunters that can't read posted signs either or know where property lines are...there is no right answer here...my point is only that we don't need to take away from a hunters right. I have more problems with house dogs than I do with hunting dogs...

The fact some people intentionally trespass has nothing to do with dog hunting.

I agree hunters need to stick together and protect our traditions. However, there is no modern tradition of dog hunting for deer in TN. And the fastest way to turn hunter against hunter is by introducing dog hunting for deer. The legal battles currently raging in the states where there is a long tradition of dog hunting, and where it is currently legal, are truly ugly. And I do mean UGLY.
In the Deep South, where there is a long history of dog hunting for deer on extremely large plantations, and thick, deep swamps virtually require dogs to move the deer, I have no problem at all with dogging. But in our small land-ownership land patterns, it would be a HUGE legal nightmare that would splinter hunters.

Some years ago I had an opportunity to go on a dog hunt for deer in NC. The dogs ran several deer but only about 3 of the 15 standers got to see them and not a shot was fired the first week. The property, a very large tobacco plantation, was thick and the deer knew how to avoid being seen. I hunted with these folks for 2 weeks and there were only 3 deer killed and I only saw 1 and did not get a shot. Every one used shotguns and buckshot because using a high power rifle would have been too dangerous.
One of the biggest problems was that the dogs did not recognize property lines and sever of the adjoining property owners did not allow hunting and the game warden was called several times. It was not as enjoyable as I would have wanted.

It would be good if they had special dog hunts on some of the state's land that's big enough, like Cherokee natioal forest, and catoosa. They already use dogs to hunt on these places, but just not for deer.

BSK, Again your points are valid... You are right on tracks of large land and using dogs...I guess I was just remembering my childhood dog hunts of many years ago and your right it was a large track of land and we never bothered the neighbors..I guess times have changed and there are smaller area's to hunt...sad.. Hunting was a way of life back then. We use to get all the neighbors together 6 farms and hunt for meat and fill everyone's tags. Times have changed and I see what your point is...

Times haven't changed one bit, it's the neighbors that have changed. Lot less "deer hunters" and a lot more "deer managers". Lot's of "traditions" these days being trampled because of the negative views of a "few". Plenty of large tracts in this state left to run deer on and plenty of boys left to run 'em, legal or not. It's ashame us dog hunters have to become outlaws, but in some states it's the only way to keep traditions alive. And by the way, BSK and the rest of the "collared" dog killers, your actions could possibly cause you to be the one to be sss. Not meant to be a threat to anyone, just a reminder.
