There is also another issue I've not seen previously mentioned regarding running deer with dogs.
Significant physical stress on the deer. Some of you may be laughing, but it really can be "significant", particularly in years of poor mast or poor food supply.
Most of us have taken a greater interest in such issues as overall "herd health", and I know of few things that can stress the physical health of deer more than being run by dogs (or coyotes). And deer that are used to being harassed/run by dogs and coyotes are generally more "alert" and hunter wary than deer than exist in the total absence of these 4-legged predators.

I have no ethical problems at all with deer hunting with dogs. But I have a SERIOUS problem with the way it is practiced. Dogs don't know property lines, and if dogs chase deer across my property, no matter how expensive those dogs are, they're going to "disappear..."
I have enough problems with my neighbors' muts chasing deer now...
i have to agree with BSK but im just not a fan of hunting deer with dogs.too each his own as long as its legal

With all the dogs that chase deer around where I hunt at you'd think it was already legal. I don't like the idea one bit mainly because dogs can't be controlled well enough to know where and when to stop.

I don't prefer for animals to do the "hunting" for me. Kinda defeats the purpose of hunting doesn't it??

its just a different kind of hunting. Sort of like the difference between bowhunting in the woods trying to find a crossing or bottle neck vs gun hunting sitting on the edge of a corn field waiting for the deer to come feed. Nothing wrong with either but just a different way to hunt.

killed my first deer in front of dogs. It is a fun way to hunt deer. Mississippi has a civil war going on every year between dog hunters and still hunters. I am glad that Tn does not allow dogs. Hard to hit them with my bow when they are running that fast......
