I grew up deer hunting with dogs in North Florida. Like everyone else said you have to have large piece of property to make it work. It also helps to have other clubs around you that dog hunt since everyone tends to help one another out. Only bad thing is that most dog hunters shoot pretty much any deer with horns so if your trying to kill a trophy good luck. Eventhough dog hunting is fun you'll wipe the mature bucks in the first year and then is all down hill from there.

I don't prefer for animals to do the "hunting" for me. Kinda defeats the purpose of hunting doesn't it??
Not if you raised the dogs and trained them how to hunt... Must guys that hunt with dogs love to here them run and half the time they don't ever care if they kill a deer. This is a social sport where hunters used there dogs, cbs, and vehicles to cut off the deer/dogs. All this talk about it, is kind of making me miss it a little...

I, for one, would be opposed simply because of what has already been mentioned. there are not enough large tracts of land around here to run dogs on .....maybe if you just had jump dogs that wouldn't run the deer very far, then you may could do it.
It would be a bad scene for me to be sitting in a deer stand and have dogs and hunters come walking under me on my private land.....
Too much controversy to allow it unless you put some restrictions that would only allow it on certain sized tracts or maybe only during certain times during the season and even then, how can you tell a land owner that they have to allow dogs to run across their property without permission....
not a good idea...IMO.

I guess I look at things a little different...Meaning if that's the way you want to hunt then who am I to say you can't. If we as hunters continue to down other hunters there right to hunt there way, I feel we are shooting ourselves in the foot. We are our own worst enemy...As long as it is legal you have the right to hunt the way you want...

That's all fine and dandy IF you can keep your dogs on your land. But as soon as they cross property lines--and they will--now you've infringed on your neighbor's right to hunt the way they want.

Seems to be a time and a place for just about everything. But I think that time and place in Tennessee has passed concerning dog-hunting for deer.
My forefathers enjoyed hunting bison on the Tennessee Ridge. They didn't use dogs, but did use horses and fire. Believe I would really enjoy participating in one of those grand old bison hunts. But times have changed, and it wouldn't be wise to bring back free-roaming bison into Middle TN, no matter how cool it might be to participate in one of those hunts.

Come on BSK... It's kind of like keeping yotes off your property. They probably cause more problems to a deer herd than a dog would... LOL

true,...but the law is very clear about what actions you can take against the yotes....folks might not like you doin the same thing to their dogs....
