What are your thoughts on petitioning TWRA to open a deer season for "dog hunting" deer like alot of other southern states do?

Bad idea.

But if you want to open that can of worms,
the end result might be in getting dog hunting for bears outlawed.

I have no ethical problems at all with deer hunting with dogs. But I have a SERIOUS problem with the way it is practiced. Dogs don't know property lines, and if dogs chase deer across my property, no matter how expensive those dogs are, they're going to "disappear..."

I have enough problems with my neighbors' muts chasing deer now...

Most exciting thing you will ever do. But dogs can't read posted signs. Ergo bad idea today.

Same here, in the existing places where it's already an established and legal tradition.

The big issue for much of Tennessee would be the average size of properties ---- in most cases there would simply be no way to limit the dogs to running deer within the boundaries of a property. This is already a big problem with coon hunting, and coons tend to run a fraction the distance of a deer.

With the overwhelming majority of TN's deer hunters being opposed to dog-hunting deer, and most non-hunters being opposed to chasing ANY animals with hunting dogs ---- end result could be real nasty, not just for bear hunting with dogs, but maybe even rabbit hunting with beagles.

We're in a very different world today than a couple generations ago, particularly regarding how hunting is viewed by the general non-hunting public and how easily they can simply stop it at the voting booth.

I would love to hunt deer with dogs but don't think there are many places big enough to do it on.

What if some wma's added a dog hunt? That way the dog hunters could have a hunt to themselves on a big piece of land.
