For those of you that have taken deer with a pistol i would like to know what caliber you used and what you would recommend. And also any other tips you are willing to give.

Some don't consider them "pistols," but for several years, myself and my brothers only gun-hunted deer with Contenders. Our favortire calibers were .357 Herret, 7mm TCU and .357 Maximum.

375JDJ in an Encore.Very powerful and more accurate with TC's factory ammo,then any handloads in any caliber i have ever shot.

the contenders are great guns but the only deer i ever killed with a pistol was with a ruger redhawk 44mag

count me among those that don't consider those pistols. they are just short rifles. pistols come in pistol calibers.
