Just as good of odds that you could have. IF your wife is short and skinny. He could have looked just like her. Or been somewhere in between. Just a total crap shoot of the 2 combinations.

My son hit right in the middle. Face looks just like me. His height is between my family side (tall) and his mother's side (shorter). He got the wide shoulders/chest like my side, but got the bald hair gene from her side! Like her dad and grandfather. Medium complexion dead center between her "Irish" white and my darker "Cherokee" tan.

He came out with a true mix of both of us. You never know how that DNA is gonna splice together.

I'm 5-9 and ugly as sin. My son is 6-2, 225 pounds and could be a male model. I'm naurally dark complected. My son is a blonde with fair skin. My daughter is the image of my wife. Fortunately, my son-in-law doesn't look like anything.

That is scary about the trout. I didn't think disease could run the spectrum between ectothermic and endothermic animals.

It can't. It just the same kind of disease. You also find a very similar disease in some breeds of poodles.

Dang. Sounds to me like this stuff is probably in animals and places we haven't even consdiered yet.

I noticed that you didn't say anything about the length of your tool...that's the example BW stated.

Mine has shrunk to where it aint no bigger than an ear of corn.

But here is what to consider. How do so many similar diseases appear in so many different animals in so many different places? How did whirling disease in trout get from PA to CO or was it there to start with? Is CJ and CWD the same thing? If so how is it transmitted in humans. Has it always been there?

Could it be we are just now recognizing things that have always been there?

Of course. As we learn more and more about how genetics work--and more importantly how the genetic makeup of species change with time--we will find more and more genetically related diseases.

When it comes to genetic research, I believe one of the most important findings is how rapidly the genetic make-up of infectious agents--especially viruses--change and adapt. This very rapid alteration allows a myriad of opportunities for cross-species infections.

In addition, considering how viruses work--by inserting themselves into healthy cells and turning those cells into virus-producing factories--the door is wide open for the cross-transposition of viral and cellular DNA (bits and pieces of DNA being swapped between the two). In fact, there is much speculation among some researchers that sudden evolutionary "jumps" observed in species may have been accomplished by viral DNA being incorporated into cellular DNA and thus being replicated and spread within the species. Many, many sections of the human genome can be identified as insertions of viral DNA into our genetic make-up. In fact, all higher life has sections of viral DNA that was inserted early in the evolutionary process (before major diversification of life began). This inserted viral DNA may have been an agent of evolutionary change and diversification. This process of viral DNA insertion has continued at a steady rate ever since.
