I am new to hunting and love it. I know deer season is around the corner. The place that I have to hunt is a 45 acre parcel that is surrounded by a couple of larger tracts(150+). It has been cut in the last 3 years. There is a 10 acre bottom that usually stays pretty wet. Everytime I have been there...I have always seen lots of deer tracks in this bottom. I really cant tell by looking if any are buck tracts.
My question is...Would you reccomend putting up a camera in this bottom? Will I pressure them by periodically going to the bottom to the point where they wont return.
Would you put up a blind in the bottom over the summer, hunt out of a climber, etc.
Last but not least...need a scope for my rifle. Its a 30-06 and dont really want to spend over $150. I have looked at the Nikon Prostaff. I know its a lot of questions...but any help would be greatly appreciated.
Oh by the way...Any reccomendations on anything that I could put out in the bottom that might help my cause. I dont have the resources to actually plant food plots but anything that I could put out like the bags of supplements you see in magazines.
Thanks Guys!!!!!!

I'd put a salt lick in the bottom and depending on what kind of camera you have, it shouldn't hurt checking your camera every 3 weeks or longer..Again,depending on what camera you have and what kind of battery life it gets..I let my cams stay out atleast 3 weeks before checking them..As for what you want to hunt out of,I guess its perssonal prefrence, what ever you like more,or what ever the area calls for..If its to thick, then a ground blind isn't gonna do no good..

Climbers are always a plus to use. Keeps the scent to a minimum. The deer I get on my camera do not seem to mind the trail cam. I would not go back more often than once every two weeks. Your batteries should last that long. Once i figure out how long my batteries will last, i try to time it and go back in when I think they are about to die.

Scope-Look at Pentax. Little known, but I have one on my 270, 243, and sks. Love them all. I think I picked up a gameseeker 3.5x10x50 for 104.00 online.

Find the food- acorns, persemmons, ect. You should be able to find a decent 3x9x40 for a reasonable price.

Welcome to the site! You will find alot of good information here. I personally would put a Trophy Rock out (salt lick) and get you a camera to put over it. You will get addicted to it. The cheapest ones that are woth anything (that I have tried) are Bushnell Troph Cams ($200). That will get you even more excited for the huntin season. And for a stand to hunt, its all your preference....if you cant sit still, I'd get a blind, and if you dont mind heights, get you a stand. Good luck!

Welcome David,

River and creek bottoms or just plain ol low swampy land can be magnets for deer.Just remember tracks in these bottoms can stay there a long time and 2-3 deer can make alot of tracks.Put out a "rock" and as others have said check it every 3 weeks.Go in just before a rain to retrieve your pics. The rain will wash away your leftover scent.

Good luck.

Hunt leads or easy travel corridors from the bottom... Deer will travel these areas and a good place to set up cameras... If you find an easy place to walk to the bottom, so will the deer... A good place to start.. good luck...

Put out at least two spots to hunt- wind and it's good to change up and not wear aout a spott.
If you can a simple box stand with maybe 3 sides and 4 ft legs is easy.
