Not that it'll change anything and not shooting for a law limit change here...just curious. How many of those of you that consider yourself trophy hunters and hunt only here in Tn would opt for a reduced limit and/or a shorter hunting season? In your opinion, pros and cons of each.
I already know that those of you that choose to shoot whatever you want have no desires for either so there's no need for a page full of "leave the season like it is" replies. This question wasn't directed at you.

I don't only hunt here in TN, but do consider myself a trophy only hunter. I would fully support any regs which reduced limits, and a shorter season, provided I felt they would produce more mature deer statewide.

If you ONLY hunted Tn would you be as quick to opt for a reduction?

Sure, I don't care to shoot any small bucks, ever. I did that as a kid. I also would be fine with a much shorter season, as I have plenty of other things to do, if deer season was closed.

Nope. We have a managed lease and there are a few guys that hunt quite a bit and take two every year and they try for the third. I'm for the more days I have to hunt, the better my odds. With work, limited vacation days, church on Sunday, I usually only get to hunt Saturday's, so the more I have of them, the better.

I too hunt other states, but I would also agree with a shorter season. Taking the pressure off these deer about 3 weeks earlier than we do now, and maybe start about 2 weeks later as well. I am however fine with the limit as it is now. I like having the opportunity to kill 3 good bucks if I can accomplish it. With as many hunters as their are that are already using self restraint and not shooting 3 yearlings anymore, the limit I think is becoming a non issue. Most hunters have put self limits in place on age and size of deer that they will harvest and thats taken care of the limits IMO anyway.

I am a trophy hunter that does not travel, but I do also hunt in north Mississippi due to the fact that I live close to the line. I think there is no reason at all to lower the limit. Anybody that is looking for mature deer needs to man up and make the choices and take the steps to hunt property with these deer. It is not as expensive as you think, it just requires hard hunting in the right places. Ive never killed a deer on a place that I have paid a dollar to hunt and my family doesn't own the first piece of land. All the properties that I hunt are less than 150 acres. There is no reason to hold back the few hunters across the state that kill 3 bucks so that you think it will help you kill that one perfect deer once every five years. I hunt to kill trophy bucks, but have no problem shooting a 2.5 yr 8 point from time to time. Maybe I'm not a trophy hunter, just a normal hunter that kills more than his share of trophies. I admire your passion to pursue monsters, but not at the expense of other hunters.
