I'd like to know the true/actual number of deer harvested that doesn't get counted..I bet it is way way more than anyone thinks..I work with several people who openly admit to poaching..In Unit B Morgan co,they talk about killing does during rifle season. The one guys brags about killing 9 does last year. The other guy, says I just killed " a couple"!! 10 or "a couple" is still poaching..It burns me up..

Over the years,of talking to other co workers or just other hunters at the check station, they all seem to shoot what they want when they want. Or land owners are bad for it..I know several land owners who hunt their own land. And during the conversation,I might bring up how I'd like to see Morgan co be put in Unit A so we can have increased ML doe permits, and they always say,"ah its my land,I'll shoot what ever I feel like"..Does anyone else find this type of hunting behavior a common practice? I hunt 100% percent alone,so i don't have no other hunting buddies, to compare them to..Seems like everyone I talk to about hunting, talks about poaching in some way or fashion(aside from tdeer)!!

Very common. There are fellas in our area that kill 50 a year, many of them actually go into your county because there are more deer their. They get caught every now and then but with just one deer, pay a couple hundred dollars in fine and court costs and get right back at it the next night, laughing at the laws and minor punishment. Not really anything can be done until the law changes and more enforcement is brought about. Right now its really up to the landowner to enforce their own properties, the justice system just isnt doing it.

I've heard plenty of guys talk about it also, but I usually get as many details as I can and then mention that TWRA offers rewards and they get kinda quiet about it.

It's not only does. I hear stories about how many bucks they can
kill. By the way, most of them are young bucks. These type
people are not hunters, they are scum. You know it and everyone
else knows it.

Called the poaching hotline on two guys poaching rockfish about three weeks ago. WO called me in about 20 minutes. I told where I was what the guys were doing and offered to take him to them. He told me one warden was out of state and he was babysitting. There was no one to respond. I don't blame the wardens, I wouldn't have taken my son on a bust either. The fact is there are not enough wardens to patrol the counties they are assinged to. I guess the answer is to not give up on these guys. They will do something if they can.

Its a common thing. There is a few guys that ride around every year, in several counties only looking for BIG bucks and shoot them. They check them in the next day and have them mounted. Can't prove they shot them with a light so, what do you do? Several years back there was a couple of younger boys spot lighting and killed 25 around my area that I heard of. Maybe more. Nothing was never done. I don't even know who the WO is in Morgan County.

Very true.
But unless we sportsmen are willing to pay more for licenses (and/or per some other way, but "pay more" period), there cannot be more county wildlife officers. Currently, most county wildlife officers have so many simultaneous calls coming in from various parts of their county that they simply have to prioritize and respond quickly to the ones that are most important.

They are also expected to answer non-wildlife related emergency calls that would otherwise be expected to be handled by the Sheriff's Department. If the Wildlife Officer is closer, he's expected to be the first responder. Note that in last week's murder of two police officers in West Memphis, it was a wildlife officer who first caught up with the thugs after they murdered the police officers, stopping them by ramming his truck into their van.

Let's keep in mind if more people were more honest and law-abiding, there wouldn't be a poaching problem.

Can't speak for the whole state, but in most of the areas I hunt, there seems to be less outright blatant "poaching" from public roads, particularly less spotlighting than in times past. Yet, there seems to be less overall respect for the rule of law on such issues as simply checking in an otherwise legally harvested deer. It's my belief that a lower percentage of the legally harvested deer are being "checked in" now than say 10 years ago. There seems to be quite a few hunters who only check in a buck they're going to mount.

I don't know what the answer is to these problems, since they reflect on society in general seemingly having less respect for any rules or laws, and our government at all levels mainly just selectively enforcing most laws. Not sure which came first, the government failing to enforce existing law, or law-breakers being so rampant that the laws couldn't be enforced on a practical basis.

All I can say is that laws that are not enforced get progressively less respect and become broken with increasing frequency.

Good points Wes. I started to confront them myself, but my son who is a LEO told me not to(I had him on the phone). I was by myself and it probably was not a good idea. I was armed, but you never know what will happen in a situation like that. My son knew what he was talking about. I just can't stand to see individuals taking more that their share. It takes away from every law abiding citizen who buys a license and follows the rules. It didn't even bother them at first that I was sitting in my boat watching them. Oh well, they got away with it that time.

Poaching goes on everywhere, but the thing to do is listen to your kids, and others....(talk at school) and quietly go about letting the WO know. Sooner or later fate meets destiny and we score one for the good guys. dont get frustrated and don't lose sleep. Be vigilant and let the system work.
